not the biggest ggg fan here, but you cant disrespect the guy for any of the 3 choices, he is in a tough position right now... I will respect him for any of those 3 choices, I wouldn't mind to wait another year for the fight to happen at 160 instead of 155 or 157 in September... I think he has every right to any of those 3 choices...

GGG and respectful action for the fight.

3, no pain no gain, almost all the atgs made sacrifices and took risks to cement their legacies as atg and to become superstars, if GGG wants that then it's only fair that he goes through the same process that greats before him went through.

I think 1 & 3 are both fine. Obviously going to 155 is the bolder move, but I don't see nothing wrong with talking & meeting in the middle somewhere. Most seem to forget that GGG dropped from 165 as an amateur to compete at 160 as a pro & asking him to drop another 5lbs to get to 155 (a weight he's never fought at or below as a pro) in his mid 30's might be a bit too much to ask of him.
What isn't going to do him any good is to get the title stripped & not getting the fight with Canelo. You don't help your legacy by winning top boxers titles you help your legacy by beating top boxers. Or just fighting top boxers cuz I think there is some hope by some fans that GGG vs Canelo could be one of the great rivalries of this next era & maybe we can see 2 or 3 of them with either guy dropping a fight or two ultimately.

Hmmm. Any of the 3 would do, though only Abel and GGG know if #1 is viable... clearly it would be unwise to accept 155 if it would leave GGG significantly weakened. My own take is that they should stick to the 160lb limit as closely as possible, only perhaps accepting a 157/8 catchweight if that is the final stumbling block. My own take is that Oscar simply doesn't want Canelo to face Golovkin - certainly not yet at any rate, and that were GGG to accept 155 the goalposts would be moved again with GGG in effect having already accepted a major concession for future negotiations. But these are practicalities - pragmatism if you like - a bow to the realities of the sport. Which would I respect most? Remain adamant that it's 160 or no fight - too often in life one step back leads to another. Besides, I simply don't see this as being a particularly special fight in itself, the scale of the event and Canelos superior resume notwithstanding.

1. Hed be doing the sport a favor. Can't have 3mw belts plus lineal decided at 155
2. Unifying 3 belts is still a big deal, even if it comes via forfeit
3. His profile grows by emasculating Canelo, who's the only other in prime star bigger than GGG at this point, in the States. If Canelo lingers on the fringes at 155 till GGG is done with his record breaking MW campaign he loses a lot of cred.

155 is more lmw than mW. At least make it halfway between the weights 157.5. Or preferably 158.
That would be sufficient for A guy who isn't a top 10 p4p like nelo is to be competitive. But when u beat GGG at a cw you remain where you are on the p4p list. Nelo won't move into top ten with GGG on his resume
But its frustrating GGG critic saying he should fight some superstars or prove he's the best middleweight, then people ie nelo put up barriers to him doing it. GGg is sincere, he wants to do what people say he should do.Last edited by hugh grant; 03-05-2016, 04:48 AM.
