Serious question, does added weight affect your chin...with a thicker, meatier neck perhaps it'll be harder to swivel the chin enough to rattle the brain

Tommy Hearns certainly seemed quite a bit better able to take punches, yes. That's my point too - I think Khan's neck was the problem.
