If and when Villoria meets Rubillar, it would not be the first time two Filipino pugs fight for a world title.
Pancho Villa fought Clever Sencio at the Wallace Field in Manila in May 1925 for the World Flyweight title. Villa won the 15-rounder on points. It was Villa's last title defense. Some two months later he met Jimmy McLarnin in a non-title tiff, then died a few weeks later of complications resulting from infections suffered following tooth extraction.
Flash Elorde also defended against Rene Barrientos. But it was for Elorde's OPBF (not world) Lightweight title. And Rene Barrientos who later won the WBC Jr. Light title also defended the OPBF lightweight title against another Filipino who became WBC Lightwelter champ, Pedro Adigue.
As for Sulaiman flipping and flopping, it too is not the first time.Last edited by grayfist; 04-20-2006, 11:08 AM.
