If you think he beat Cloud and Shum, fair enough but there was nothing clear about it and Campillo was the champion of nothing.
It's classic saying something he believes and working backwards. He only gives Kovalev credit for Campillo when Fonfora beat him no one cared.

Fonfara deserves a lot of credit as a top notch LHW contender, he doesn't get his due.

The thing about Fonfora is getting stopped by a middleweight means he'll never get credit for what he is now. He very well might be the 4th best at the weight.

And this this coming from a big Kovalev fan.
          This.

You can't say Kovalev is fighter of the decade then just come up with pure speculations.

Niida(10 time defending world champion) TKO4
Takayama(Went on to become world champ)
Rodriguez Jr.(went on to unify the IBF/WBO later on)
            Estrada( currently WBA/WBO world champ)
Yaegashi( WBC Lineal champ at the time and currently IBF World Champion)
Viloria( Seasoned very skilled Multi World champion)

Kovalev will NEVER be a three time world champion, like many LHW boxers he don´t want to go to 168 or to full heavy weight.

You didn't watch these, did you? Clearcut Campillo wins, robbery of the year type decisions both

Remember when people were saying GGG would kill Kovalev? Or I should say his fans were saying. Kovalev would spank GGG

So far, it isn't even close. If he keeps on winning, for the next 4 years, and collects wins over Ward and Stevenson an argument could be made.
I wonder if boxing writers will give the award to someone who retired in 2015. I imagine if there ends up being a close candidate who is active around the time the award is given (whoever it may be) that they'd be the preferred pick.

way too early for that. beating ward and stevenson certainly puts him in the leads for that honor though.

                      1. How many fights did Ray leonard have in the 80s

                      2. How many divisions did monzon, duran, and ali compete in the 70s

                      3. Nobody said anything about floyd, he didn't win it because manny went thru more divisions and better opponents

                      4. By your logic, or lack of, wilder could beat fury, wlad, Joshua, haye, Povetkin but he didn't do MULTIPLE divisions so wilder wouldnt acceptable candidate
#1 cant compare kov to Sugar Ray Leonard end of
#2 the went through their particular division. the "network" divide was not in place then as it is now to that extent.
#3 stop playin' manny pacquiao is the catchweighter of the decade if anythang i've broken down his resume he's an average fighter esp off resume he's been stopped 3 TIMES BY KO and his resume is average and is the poster boy for ped use. ever since his catchweight deskruction of cotto in the 12th round when allegations began swirling around that he was on that **** he hasnt had a ko since.
#4 Heavyweights are from 200lbs to ANY weight they cant fluctuate down below 200 bc that will emaciate them so the argument of HEAVYWEIGHTS cant be the same SIMPLE LOGIC
