Wins over Ward, Beterbiev to go with his wins over Campillo, Hopkins, Cleverly & Pascal would stand Kovalev in good stead for the award. I doubt Stevenson ever fights him.
But you are right, if Mayweather took just one and a half year off in the 2000s and didn't get the FOTD nod, he definitely won't get it this decade since he'll be off for 4 years. Even if his 2010's run ends up being the best of this decade. Just the way **** goes, it was like Derek Jeter trying to win an MVP award, even when he deserved, writers found someone else to give it to. On a more minor note, a NY Yankee has yet to be on the cover of an MLB The Show game since it's start in 2006. When you are the best and you have that aura that Mayweather, Yankees have, you're gonna make a lot of people mad and you're not going ot get the credit you deserve.

These are the guys I think would end up top 2 in 2019 for the FOTD.
Andre Ward - I think Ward will add on to his already great resume, a big name Sergey Kovalev to solidify his status again, and then fight Stevenson in 2017, and fight on for a couple of more years and retire 2019.
Canelo Alvarez - Has a chance to beat Golovkin and add to his growing resume, he will make a good run in the very weak MW division which will hinder his chances at actually winning the FOTD. It won't be his fault, a win over Jacobs, Saunders, Eubank Jr won't be able to beat out Ward's wins over Barrera, Kovalev, Stevenson.

It's still much too early to assess whether Kov will be fighter of the decade. Things change quickly in boxing and everything changes enormously in 4 years (the amount of time left in this decade). I like Kovalev as a fighter and hope he can keep knocking the competition off, but it's a lot easier said than done. Stevenson doesn't look like he will fight Kov, so that is probably not going to be another "name" on Kov's record. I'm not confident Ward will fight him either. Kovalev may end up in the same situation that Golovkin is in. If everyone avoids him how can he be fighter of the decade?

Also Pacquiao tear is considerably greater than Mayweathers. elite competition and exciting fights which is what it's really about, Pacquiao was a very exciting fighter in compelling matchups for over a decade.
And I don't know about Kovalev, still alot of time left and he doesn't carry the biggest buzz, slightly favoring Golovkin in this should he ever get and beat Alvarez.Last edited by SplitSecond; 01-31-2016, 04:27 AM.

I would love to see it happen.
He is truly one of the biggest talents in boxing right now.
It's hard to picture anyone knocking him off in the next few years.
He's a beast, but a smart beast, which is probably the most dangerous.
It's too bad the network BS will only allow him the opportunity to cement his legacy against Ward.

I don't know man. Two decades in a row without having a slick black brutha from America will upset a lot of people.

How to ruin a fighter's career(NSB style)
1. Claim he's fighter of the decade after 2 good wins
2. Give him wins he doesn't have yet
3. Have a BoxingScene account
