PBC needs a Wrestlemania

I'm sure people will complain with out reading what I have to say but hear me out.

No one will probably disagree with me that pro wrestling was much more popular in '99 than it is today. I wanna say that around that time WWF Raw was getting record numbers and I wanna say the record is somewhere around 8 million viewers. Meanwhile Wrestlemania 15 got about 800k buys.

Fast forward to recent times. I wanna say WWE gets around 4 million on a great day. Meanwhile before the WWE Network Wrestlemania 28 or something a few years ago got 1.2 million buys. While the actual product had dropped a lot the biggest card of the year did better than ever.

Boxing has been similar. While overall popularity has dropped, Mayweather vs Pacquiao blew every other single fight away in terms of PPV buyrates. The problem is boxing has always been name driven. Wrestlemania was driven by the Wrestlemania name and not just individual stars. Don't get me wrong having the Rock come back obviously helped, but the fact is Wrestlemania has become a brand in and of itself.

PBC needs to follow this model and create a special yearly event. It will take YEARS to actually make this successful. But right now fighters names matter more than the sport. Imagine if last year Mayweather vs Pacquiao was the fist annual Boxmania. For arguments sake what if Canelo vs Cotto was Boxmania 2. Canelo vs GGG was Boxmania 3. GGG vs Ward was Boxmania 4. Don't you feel no matter what, fighters would benefit from just being on Boxmania 12?

Don't get me wrong, this will take a while to make effective. But I truly feel if you took a special date and said "this is the biggest boxing fight of the year" eventually that event would become successful and benefit boxing. It would make the date and event important instead of just relying on the names involved.

I think PBC just needs consistency. Pick one network, one time slot and one belt your fighters will fight for.

Hmm I see what you mean but the problem with this is boxers seem to get injured a lot more frequently than the WWE athletes this is one problem the next problem is balancing everything in this yearly event will happen a set month every single time on that month so fighters for PBC will need to really have a clue whats happening way ahead of the schedule because our fighters need preparation time to get ready for big fights and this is exactly what you're describing a massive event where we have big star attraction fights happening.

I say its not feasible for promotions because they will say why have nearly all of our star fighters in one card when we can spread the load through 12 months, boxers of modern times are only fighting 2/3 times a year on average - maybe just maybe if boxers were in the same mould of the old days where they were constantly active but in this day nah...
Too much waiting about for **** to actually happen, too many loop holes to get through.

It should run with being more traditional boxing , loud entrances , ring girls etc get some atmosphere pumping it crosses over to tv .

For me PBC is great for boxing but its too clinical and sterile for the level of fighters in the main events , the last was highly regarded world title and it was so low key with no atmosphere .

PBC doesn't even have a face.

They don't have an athlete that's represents them or a salesman like Dana White.

PBC is destined to fail, this is a god awful business plan. I cant for the life of me understand how they formulated a business plan amd never figured they needed someone to represent there organization.

yea i hear u, thats my only problem with pbc on regular tv. its too clean and commercial. we dont get the good pre fight build ups and the uncut post fight interviews. if that wilder fight was on nbc the fury confrontation wouldnt of went down like that. and people like broner that u always know will have somthing to say afterwards. boxing needs all of that its apart the raw and uncut atmosphere

Once a year stack the sh.it out of a card put 3-4 big fights on it, probably put up decent #s

By 1999, there'd already been FOURTEEN Wrestlemanias! Have you actually seen the first Wrestlemania. Heck, look up the bout sheets for the first five Wrestlemanias while you're at it.

Wrestlemania didn't even really become "Wrestlemania" (bankable annual event on name alone) until the mid 90's.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao, after the five years of starts/stops, would've worked for a "Boxmania", but that's only because of the spectacle that'd been built up over the 5 years; if the fight had been put on in 2010, it wouldn't have worked.

The only fight that would fit the bill for a "Boxmania", at this point, is Mayweather-McGregor (for the pure spectacle of the matchup).

Yeah true, PBC is like tuning in to watch some canned biased news production or an infomercial. Very generic in every way.
