Comments Thread For: "Fighting Words" - Five Big Stories to Follow in 2016

The early weeks of the year tend to be a slower time for the sport, and 2016 appears as if it will be no different.

The schedule for the first part of next year is still being fleshed out, but so far January's highlights look to include the heavyweight title doubleheader on Jan. 16 featuring Deontay Wilder vs. Artur Szpilka and Vyacheslav Glazkov vs. Charles Martin; a crossroads fight on Jan. 23 as Danny Garcia continues to test himself at welterweight, this time against the declining Robert Guerrero; and a Jan. 30 rematch between light heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev and Jean Pascal that seems even less necessary now than it did immediately after Kovalev stopped Pascal in their first meeting.

Simple concept for PBC to be successful, make the fights ppl want to see. Continue to make fights that have no intrigue, PBC goes under.

PBC shouldve put out its best product to grab ppls attention..part of the problem is these "stars" dont wanna face the other contenders(Thurman).

Everyone has their opinion. This is my opinion of the five biggest stories in boxing in 2016:

        1. Will Gennady Golovkin fight someone that he does not find in a cardboard box on skid row? He claims to be avoided at 160, but refuses to move up to 168 uniess he can get fights against specific opponents when there are several others at that weight willing to fight him.

        2. Will Deontay Wilder fight anyone ranked higher than #50 in the European Boxing Union rankings? I wouldn't count on it.

        3. Will Bob Arum put an end to his UFC style promotional tactics where he only schedules championship fights between fighters who are signed to Top Rank (an accusation that the nitwits who post on this site accuse PBC of doing)?

        4. Will the posters on this site stop creating threads about a retired Floyd Mayweather? I doubt it!

        5. Will any top 10 contender in the welterweight division fight another top 10 contender in the welterweight division? Once again, I doubt it!

Haters pressure only him because he is "white"

In middleweight are one of the most attractive divisions in the follow year so is not reason to GGG to move up, Canelo fight will happen eventually but then if it is no attractive fights he can move up, i do not understand haters pressure they put to him to move up, get it over.

yeh im tired of idiots telling GGG to move up, it makes no sense and he wants to clean out the division like BHOP did when he was on top. He stated that a very long time ago and hes sticking to it credit to him.

He won't even try to fight a guy like Lara though, who's willing to go up to 160. When you realize that his bravado is all smoke and mirrors, and that he's never fought an impressive opponent, it's only fair the be a bit critical.
"Clean out the division"?? Lol. That trash can has already been emptied. If he wants to impress educated boxing fans he needs to "dare to be great", like most boxing legends have done and compromise a little in order to secure great fights. You guys want to give him a college diploma for a speak-and-spell resume.

Meanwhile Lara is fighting stiffs on Tuesday nights on Spike tv right?
When is he moving up to 160? Is he gonna fight Jrock or the Charlos? Or Andrade? Or anyone at 154 that's worth a damn?

Stop reaching dude, just because someone says yeah I'll fight so and so, it don't mean **** until they show some effort to actually make the fking fight.

GGG is waiting on that payday and unification with Canelo at this point. Lara should go handle some business at 154 on his side of the street instead of making meaningless statements on Twitter.

Sometimes you say something and there is a hint of logic to it, then you say stuff like this.

Let's assume GGG and Lara even wanted to fight, although it's not even competitive, considering Lara had issues with plodding Angulo, what the fuuuuck is he gonna do to GGG.

But let's say they wanted it, exactly how the hell do they break through the wall that stand in their way.

                  1. When is Haymon gonna work with HBO.

                  2. How does GGG versus Lara generate enough to even make either side budge.

                  3. Lara's stated fee is high, as is every Haymon fighter, who pays that when the fight itself won't generate enough to cover the cost?

                  4. What's the point, if you step away from the GGG hate, you'd see that Lara has nothing for GGG. Do you believe Canelo beats GGG?

                  5. Most don't, and Lara ran and lost against Canelo. GGG will brutalize Lara, and most will just say Lara is undersized.

Personally, I wish 1 through 3 would be rectified, because you and the GGG detractors would quickly see that 4 & 5 are exactly what would happen.

Lara can chirp all day on Twitter, but when he wanted Canelo he really pushed for it.

He only mentions GGG when he is about to fight someone else.

Has Lara sent GGG a contract! Has Lara team even contacted GGG's team?

                  No and no.

You can say he will fight someone all day when you know that fight is damn near impossible to make.

If GGG was a huge PPV star, maybe. But he is just getting there.

                  Lara doesn't do numbers.
