Showtime only has an interest in the US numbers on Showtime. International numbers don't help them.

        this

all conference title games were going on at the same time

270K is decent when you're going up against championship week

I will say this though, Showtime boxing is struggling. They did 200s for DeGale-Bute and now 300s for Jacobs-Quillin. These are porous numbers. I think Garcia-Salka even did 800s.

I'm not sure why the HBO fanboys are rejoicing though. I mean isn't this the type of fight you wanted Haymon to make? Two top 5 MWs in their primes engaging in an exciting, albeit abbreviated, fight? Why rejoice that it did bad numbers?

people slept on that fight thinking Bute was shot or whatever. They missed a damn good fight.......

I would bet the replay number went up after word got around about how good a fight it was......

No one but hard core fans know who Jacobs and Quillin are. I can count on one hand how many times I've seen Jacobs fight anybody notable. Similarly, Quillin had a chance to build his name, but chose to vacate his title rather than fight his mandatory in Korobov. Haymon's been milking fighters' careers by matching them easy. What he may not realize is that if his fighters would rather fight easy fights, casual fans will find something else to watch. By the time he does finally match them up tough like Jacobs & Quillin, it's too late, casuals have lost interest.

i am not happy about this at all and any fan who is happy about these numbers isn't a boxing fan but a fanboy. This was on paper a very good fight and should have done better... fights like these deserve better viewership.

Well this what happens when you take too long to pull the trigger. Fans got tired of waiting and once it happened no one cared. Both guys haven't looked the best in recently fights. Jacobs getting hurt by light punching Mora and Quillin fighting like a lost puppy against Lee and getting dropped hurt the hype.

I missed the fight live myself and caught it on DVR. Maybe if guys would stop hating on fighters just because they don't like them due to personal reasons and just support the sport.

i would like to add to my own post that even though football probably was a crushing factor some of the blame could lie with the build up of these fighters, like poster above me said you match them easy for a few fights against weak opponents and then you get this result... however Andy lee vs Quilin wasn't an easy fight for either guy so maybe it was all football... who knows (yes i am typing as i am thinking out loud)

another possibility is that maybe some casuals saw them on PBC, but then didnt know about the fight, or just didnt migrate over to Showtime.

I think having the soft fights on PBC and the better ones on Showtime is a bad strategy. The casuals arent going to work that hard to follow what channel its on. NBC this week. Spike next week. ESPN the week after. Then a big one on Showtime. Sure, hardcores will look for it. But casuals? nope

Lets hope that this becomes a reality.

It was football. College football, yes, but it was championship college football. And some good games were going on
