Comments Thread For: “Fighting Words” — Fury Wins Big One, Must Make It Two

by David P. Greisman - DUSSELDORF — Tyson Fury said it was his destiny, that a child born into a family of fighters, a baby who arrived so early that he weighed just one pound, a boy named after the baddest man on the planet, would grow up to become, like his namesake, the heavyweight champion of the world.

He claimed his loved ones saw this future from the day of his first amateur fight. That prediction was a bold one, even if it was a belief based more on familial fantasy. It nevertheless came true. His next destination has also been foretold. The moment he left the ring in Germany as champion meant that he would likely make his first defense against the man he’d just defeated.

Fury had to travel from his home in the United Kingdom to Dusseldorf, a city on the Rhine in the western part of Germany. He had to face Wladimir Klitschko, the longtime champion who had not lost in more than a decade and had beaten a lengthy list of challengers during those years. He had to fight in a country that had adopted Klitschko and would support him as one of its own, filling a sizable [Click Here To Read More]

if wlad loses again will he beg for a 3rd, 4th, 5th and a 6th?

as styles go, personality wise and at wlads age, fury is kryptonite, i love the fact big bad ego wlad probably cant sleep at night losing to fury, psychologically it must be mind breaking for him, i hope fury rubs it in so hard in the press conferences for the rematch, wlads comebacks was weak before but god damn hes going to be completely destroyed he doesnt have a leg to stand on!

Fury will more than likely win again, Klitschko looked too confused and too tentative for there to be a different outcome. Wlad finally got impaled....

Wladimir fought like he has always fought.

He just wasn't up against some Fat American Bum or Big Stiff Euopean Dummy.

He usually controls these guys with the jab and clinches the **** out of them. Waits for them to gas out before detonating the right hand.

Fury completely took away Wlad's best asset - the jab. If he isn't landing that jab, he's completely lost and will never throw the right hand.

It was a combination of Fury doing well and Wlad doing bad the victory, Wlad cannot use the excuse in full because the guy Fd up, he threw only a handful of power punches and not even many jabs!

And to say Fury was responsible solely for shutting down Wladimir is also a bit of a stretch.

Peter Fury himself actually summed it up rather succinctly here.

This is a very good article and everybody should read it- it is free of bias! Very unusual from established writers who are almost always biased.

The rematch is a 50/50 prospect imo. There will be no shock value in either outcome this time but it will be even more edge of the seat seeing what will happen.

If Wladimir loses again, he has to retire, and I believe he will. He will be done, and will only disrespect the sport and himself if he continues.

Just like Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis did when they were vanquished at the end of their career.

I would hate to see such a great champ like Wlad take the Evander Holyfield route and continue on in vain.

Likewise even if he wins I still think Wladimir should, AND WILL, retire. This loss is just a reality check and a vision of many more failures to come in the future.

It seems that 38 is the new pinnacle point of boxers today- after that age, things seem to begin to go South.

One way or another, Klitschko vs Fury 2 is Wladimir's last fight I'm sure of it.

Wlad threw the fight to collect big time in Macau

Wlad threw the fight utilizing the huge odds in Wlad's favor to defend against the Fluff Fury to generate multimillions in Macau and Hong Kong and in Monte carlo off of side bets with a Fury upset. Many are left wondering why but $50 million speaks loudly for a 40 yr old C0mmie about to retire soon. Smart move on Wlad's part throwing the fight to a huge slow ****** non athlete who cannot punch and is a laughter. The Ukraine needs millions for arms. It's logical and true. Wlad threw the fight for millions of rubles. Vitali was in on it also. Remember they are both communists. Granted the Bearcat lost his $10,000 wager on a sure Wlad win but even Vegas was left scratching their heads over the number of bets placed on Fury to win the fight outright. Fluff Fury is nothing more than a huge clown Oaf who Wlad knew would have long odds against to win the fight. Set up thrown fight game set match last laugh on the 40 yr old Wlad.

Fury had good head & body movement, especially for a man of his size. His movement, size & awkward style, along with his long arms threw Klitschko off his game. After watching Wlad clinch, hold and lean on smaller opponents and then wear them down with punches, it's refreshing to see someone give him difficulty. I'm still wondering why Weeks didn't warn Klinchsko er, Klitschko after that blatant head-butt.

Fury is a big OAF more of a Cartoon character

Fluff Fury and the brits control the heavies for now. And then there is Wilder. Fury might be the worst boxer skill wise to ever hold the crown at heavy. Fury is just a clownish Oaf.
