Comments Thread For: DeGale Declares Himself Boxing’s Best 168-Pounder

James DeGale didn’t hesitate to cross the pond again to make his first title defense.

The newly crowned IBF super middleweight champion from London will meet Montreal’s Lucian Bute on Saturday night at Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada. Showtime will televise their 12-round fight as the main event of a doubleheader scheduled to start at 11 p.m. ET/PT. [Click Here To Read More]

There's going to be some bitter irony about this statement come Sunday morning.

This Bute fight could be trickier than most people think if DeGale decides to coast and take rounds off again.

He needs to be aggressive like he was against Gonzales and Periban.

Bute will probably **** himself under a bit of pressure.

you think bute will beat him?
i wouldnt call you a mentalist but i do think bute might give him some problems, degale certainly wont do bute in a froch esque manner.
degale will win fairly easily on points imo.

I think DeGale is a bit overrated. I wasn't impressed with his fight vs Andre Dirrell, he can be very inactive at times. He got a big boost with his KO wins over Periban & Gonzalez, but Periban was badly jetlegged going into the fight and had nothing. Gonzalez is simply a lower level fighter and never been that good.

Meanwhile Bute is finally away from his old trainer and working the Grant brothers, I'm betting they've given him renewed focus & confidence, along with tightening up some technique flaws. In addition, Bute's been working with Memo Heredia for this camp. I expect this to be the best version of Bute we've seen since Froch.

yeah i kind of agree with you, i only saw the dirrell highlights, but i definitely think degale is beatable, the periban fight meant absolutely nothing, the stoppage was bs as well.

what exactly are you basing that on though?
bute lost practically every round against pascal and then beat a bum so not sure why you think he will be back to his best?
edit: oh because he's with memo, dat special juice?

I did think Bute's arms looked a bit "enhanced" in those workout pics.

He might want to win his next fight first.
