Zou Shiming: lost.
Cotto: lost.
Pacquiao: lost.
Provodnikov: lost.
Khan: lost, ignored.
JCC Jr.: lost.
Gomez: last went the distance with a club fighter, hasn't fought in 2015.
Could go on and on, and that's just 2015 (except for Khan and Gomez). Roach is nothing but overhype centered around Manny.
In the Mayweather fight Roach was absolutely silent when Floyd was dancing around his boy. No answer, no strategy, just excuses. After recording a video saying there shouldn't be any excuses.

I believe Roach has done great work with Cotto. For most of Cotto's career, he was basically training himself. Roach has been the first trainer to actually provide Cotto with support he can't himself. Both on strategic and conditioning levels, Cotto is doing excellently with Roach.
And, as to the fight, I'd like to remind everyone that, despite what HBO or ESPN may say, MANY people saw the Cotto-Canelo fight a different way. There was even a Mexican news outlet which outright called the fight a robbery. Even top level fighters in the sport thought the fight was at least a draw. For as much as our media insists otherwise, there IS controversy with the result. And the fact that the scores were so terrible only made it worse.
This fight seems to boil down to whether you believe punching "harder" overcomes boxing output. Max Kellerman and Roy Jones made the case that, even though Cotto was outboxing Canelo, it was as if he were playing a soft instrument, while Canelo played a loud one. Punching power was their reason.
I and others, including Cotto himself, are of the opinion that this wasn't enough. Sure, throwing thudding shots can be a great benefit in CLOSE output, but this theory should NOT apply to significantly lower outputs. If you're being outboxed, you're being outboxed, I don't care if someone thinks your shots "sound" louder. Please. The name of the game is hit and not get hit. Unless you're hurting your opponent EACH time you land, that kind of thinking holds no weight.
Plus, this is Cotto we're talking about, here. His shots may not have "sounded" heavy to some people, but I bet you anything they were. He's a devastating puncher. Just because he's pulling the trigger quickly and moving out of the way doesn't mean the shots aren't heavy. Canelo can say he didn't feel them all he wants, but Margarito said the same thing. It's simple, if Cotto hits you, he hurts you. There's no way around that. You feel it.
A great example of this is Pacquiao himself. His shots are simply fast. Rarely do you consistently hear "thuds." Yet, how many people has he knocked out? This thudding excuse is just a cover-up for what really happened.
Cotto avoided/blocked a lot of the shots the HBO crew gave Canelo credit for that night, thus making his own output more significant. Was everyone, including the judges, swayed by the crowd? What happened?Last edited by SunSpace; 11-29-2015, 02:33 PM.
