    Ring Ratings: Stevenson stripped

Ring ratings update: Canelo in at #9 p4p, Stevenson, YPH stripped of Ring belt, Rigo given stern warning. On account of their "no top 5 win in 2 years" rule. Stevenson premature IMO, though he's been a lousy champ and passed up many opportunities at good fights. YPH way overdue, what the hell is Cliff waiting for?

they left Andre Fraud in there for way too long.

they make "exceptions" for certain fighters who they like, it's pathetic.

hernandez retired so yea removing him makes sense.

ward being in the p4p list makes no sense at all. he hasn't fought a top 5 guy in his division in 4 years yet he's #4 p4p? uhhhh why? nostalgia?

stevenson hasn't scheduled a fight with a top 5 fighter in over 2 years but he did beat fonfara who is now in the top 5 so i guess he loses it on a technicality.

I thought The Ring's policy was that a boxer could only lose his title in the ring (retirements aside)?

Im very disappointed in the RING I thought they based their titles on linage - They are starting to act like the rest of the sanctioning bodies. I see 168 is vacant granted the lineal champ S.O.G has moved up to LH but I hate to think that they would of done the same to Ward.

So you could fight a bum once a year and keep the belt? Its good they have this policy, fight top 5 opponent in 2 years. But its rarely enforced like with Ward or YPH.

Its wrong if Linage means anything to you. As another poster mentioned Stevenson has tried to make the fights and should not be 'stripped' but at this point thats OK because with this new policy its TRASH now.

                ludicrous.

not to mention how silly it is to try to strip someone of the lineal title . . .

RING has made it clear that their title has nothing to do with the lineal title. so why exactly is anyone supposed to care about some made up ****zine championship owned by one of HBO's promoters?

rigondeaux hasn't fought a "ring top 5" opponent since APRIL 2013, but since he's with an HBO promoter, i guess it's okay.

stevenson is with showtime, so despite facing a "ring top 5" opponent six months after rigondeaux did, stevenson gets stripped.

fonfara is ranked 8 and would be 7 if stevenson was still champ and stevenson beat him last year. with hopkins & kovalev both turning down the stevenson fight, that means fonfara is top 5 among those that didn't specifically go out of their way to avoid stevenson.
stevenson can still take the kovalev fight any time he wants. its there for him, he just has to fight on hbo which he is allowed to do. kovalev's not allowed to fight on pbc. kovalev's promoter made a power move and put all the pressure on stevenson to make the fight and has he tried to make it? nope not at all. he keeps complaining about phantom money that doens't exist. low information fans keep saying they would make more no pbc! which is true but they can't fight on pbc. they can only fight on hbo. stevenson wants 50 percent of a bigger phantom number instead of 50 percent of a real but smaller number. stevenson isn't taking the fight because he's mad. being mad doesn't stop someone from fighting and hence he was stripped.

if you're a fan of mandatories, there are plenty of sanctioning bodies that will suit you nicely.

stripping stevenson is ridiculous. kovalev was his mandatory. he agreed to face kovalev and a purse bid was ordered.

                  KOVALEV REFUSED TO FIGHT HIM.

you can try to spin things however you want, but ring ****zine takes a huge credibility hit here, ESPECIALLY with HBO PPV fighter rigondeaux keeping his title despite stevenson facing a top 5 "ring contender" far more recently than rigondeaux.

glad to see ring ****zine has decided to become a politically corrupt biased organization just like their big brothers the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO . . .
I said I thought he was premature. But the difference is, Stevenson passed on Hopkins, Pascal x2, and Kovalev back on HBO, all top 5. Rigo legit can't get anyone decent in the ring at 122

Lineal status who makes the rules up? I dont see the official rules show me the rules. So its cool to beat the man that beat the man but than fight bums and keep your status as the #1 real champ of the division? Lineal doesn't mean **** these days look at the whole 160 weight class fiasco.
