Russia; currently being investigated for Huge Doping Ring

Seems this has been unraveling for a while now. From last year;
"From the guarantees by Russian state government officials controlling the political side, down through the Russian government agencies that control RUSADA, WADA’s approved lab, all interwoven in the sophisticated doping supply chain network, combined also with high level coordination between the Russian sport executives, anti-doping officials, sport federation officials and coaches.
The Russian doping system in some ways mirrors the GDR doping of the 60’s-90’s. Russian coach Oleg Popov stated, “The athlete has no choice. Either you agree and use the illegal substances, or if you don’t you’re out of sport (in Russia).”
"Russian coaches were “out of control” and expected the anti-doping agency to protect their athletes rather than catch them. Athletes were left with little choice but to participate in doping programmes if they wanted to make the team."
It seems to imply that if you were a Russian athlete, you were on PEDs.
Since last year they uncovered;
"It found that the head of the Moscow lab, Grigory Rodchenko, admitted to intentionally destroying 1,417 samples in December 2014 shortly before Wada officials were due to visit."Last edited by Redd Foxx; 11-09-2015, 02:09 PM.

Creating a suggestive thread because of a possible track and field scandal might prove to have little to do with actual reality.

some important info in this journalists summary fo the report:
they have not made a concrete link between the state and the systematic doping. they're making claims similar to the brady investigation.
like with brady, where there's smoke, there's probably fire. i think brady cheated. i think the russian state was in on the doping scandal.
still, "probably," doesn't cut it. the russian state "probably" facilitated the doping. that's all the article says more will come out in time.
The report also implicated the Russian government’s involvement in cheating, noting that while investigators had not found written evidence of government complicity, “it would be naive in the extreme to conclude that activities on the scale discovered could have occurred without the explicit or tacit approval of Russian governmental authorities.”

Now that is what you call a scandal, systematic widespread cheating can never stay in the dark.
Almost always they will get caught up after the fact but the bigger something gets someone is either going to talk or be forced to talk which implicates more because in any doping scheme many people are required.
It is why there is no reason to proclaim small things as a scandal eventually what is in the dark will be brought to the light.
Also the problem with pro boxing is enforcement of anti-doping, right now the risk is not close to the benefit. All the testing in the world doesn't change that and with the fractured nature of the sport as well as the stakeholders not wanting fights cancelled more than they already are especially close to the fight it is hard to see anyone doing much about that.

Edit: sorry, just olympics, not about boxing.Last edited by SplitSecond; 11-09-2015, 02:44 PM.
