Wow, I figured once HBO got behind it Nevada would support it. I guess fighting Smith at 175 was just too much.

I've gathered from other sources the Nevada Commission has in fact said "no" to this ugly mismatch.

Props to the Nevada Commission for making the right decision! No need for Ward to take advantage of an inexperienced kid & humiliate him in front of the world.

Question: Why is Ward is trying to get used to 175 by fighting SMW's at 175? Why not fight a real 175 pounder like Yunieski Gonzalez or Vyacheslav Shabranskyy?

You are right. The Nevada State Athletic Commission allowed Mayweather to engage in ridiculous mismatches against Cotto, Alvarez and Pacquaio.

But you have to give the NSAC some credit. They are allowing two of those mismatched opponents to fight each other in November. I guess a fight between two BS cherry picked opponents is okay in Nevada.

If I gave you 100 guesses before Floyd made that cherry pick, you still would not have guessed Berto. Same goes for when Floyd picked someone 3 divisions below him in Marquez. Even Floyd said "Who is Guerrero? I honestly never heard of him"

Even Canelo. Canelo was green and had no big fights and had issues. What Canelo had was a fan base but was not ready.
Cotto fight was 5+ years to late. Happened right after Manny and Margarito did what they did to Cotto.

That's the thing. Chavez was fighting dudes every other month, Ward is fighting every other year. If Ward was more active then a tune up like this would be more acceptable. If you don't want to fight quality then you have to fight quantity, if you don't want to fight quantity then you have to fight quality.

So what. Look at Buck Smith's record...see how much that fool was boxing per year. And that guy got scandalized for accepting rigged fights. Classic fall down guy sniper journeyman, and ironically, was part of Chavez's resume after the Whittaker fight...
