Comments Thread For: IBF Same Day Weights: Golovkin 168.6, Lemieux 169.2

The final hurdle was cleared in moving forward with tonight's middleweight title unification bout between Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux. Both fighters were with within regulations for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) same-day weight check ahead of their HBO Pay-Per-View headliner at Madison Square Garden in New York City (Saturday, 9:00 p.m. ET, $49.95 SRP).

All boxers fighting in an IBF-sanctioned fight are required to weigh in the morning of the bout, where they cannot gain more than 10 lbs. above the contracted limit. For this fight, the middleweights were required to weigh no more than 170 lbs.

Golovkin tipped the scales at 168.6 lbs. during this morning's weight check, while Lemieux weighed 169.2 lbs. [Click Here To Read More]

Golovkin was 170 on fight night in his last outing, not sure about Lemieux.

They weighed in real early for the fight yesterday to probably to benefit Lemieux.

Interesting. Both are coming in as light heavyweights on fight day.

Golovkin will only face Ward at 164, doe.

The WBC & IBF weigh-in rules should be universal for all boxing matches. I'd be interested to see what some of these guys would weigh the morning of the fight, this would help keep a level playing field.

Yes, but Ward will only face GGG when GGG has already signed to fight somebody else. By the way, why is that? Just because Ward didn't honor his contract does he expect GGG to do so as well?

if they're the same size then ward can make 164 lbs just as easily as golovkin can, right?

I would like to see him answer this. But I'm sure he'll come up with some ****** explanation.

People react differently to dehydration. I've never heard of a negative affect from not having to.

So, in the morning, GGG was 168.6 lb...
For the Ward-Rodriguez fight they couldn't rehydrate over 180 lb by the morning...

... Which gives you the answer, because you want to pose here in some "weigh in savvy", doe...
