Comments Thread For: What if Gennady Golovkin Loses?

By Cliff Rold - Anyone still trying to figure out what the point of the Apple Watch is?

Sure, it’s a nice status symbol if one can afford it. That’s for those who see value in status symbols. If a list of possessions already includes an iPhone, iMac, and iPad, it’s arguably just a goofy 80s digital watch with a FitBit.

    For more than $300.

Boxing fans can see the Apple Watch can be seen another way.

The Apple Watch is the latest vehicle for the expanding horizons of the man who might be boxing’s next big thing.

It’s been hard to miss the Apple Watch ads featuring WBA middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO). Fans of a certain age remember what it was like when boxers regularly were called on to do endorsements for major brands. Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard had 7-Up. Marvelous Marvin Hagler had Right Guard. Mike Tyson had Kodak, Pepsi, and Nintendo.

Whether one is a fan of Golovkin or not, any boxing lover has to be happy to see someone from their favorite sport in such a favorable spot.

In recent years, we’ve seen Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao spearhead some major campaigns but only after they’d firmly established their place as pay-per-view stars. Golovkin is something different. He’s just getting there. This Saturday, he rides his latest wave of good promotion into his first notable pay-per-view headliner. [Click Here To Read More]

If he loses he loses. All of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport except a few have losses. It might stunt his momentum a bit as far as marketing him as a product goes, but it could even help him. A fighter like Golovkin, a modern day Achilles, it takes more than a loss to derail his legacy. He is destined for greatness.

Pigeon is destined to have a tattoo of Golovkin mug on his right testicle before it's all said and done.

      'wraps has spoken.

lets be real....if he loses to a guy like lemieux then his hype would die as quick as matthysse's did. he is waaaaay to old to take a loss like this and comeback. hopkins lost but at least he was when he was still somewhat up & coming, not to mention it was against roy freaking jones jr.

... If he dies, he dies...

... But highly unlikely -- Lemieux never fought a KO artist yet... and not a Russian one.

Anyway, Lemieux might catch GGG with a big punch and knock him out cold. Why not?

... and what's next? GGG would ask for a rematch...

They'll have a trilogy off PPV and earn a few million each.

I'll tell u why not : Lemieux has power , but it's the type of power u can get up from after a knockdown . GGG has that kind of power that disables u from continuing . It should be exciting while it last doe .

My biggest Worry is he wins too Fast

and makes it clear to Goldenboy's Red Headed Catchweight Star that he really needs to run, forest run.

If GGG obliterates Lemieux in two rounds.

Canelo and Our net stocking wearing buddy will surely crap their pants.

They vacate but keep the Lineal. Canelo, Goldenboy, and their Mexican fan base attempt to make that Lineal sound as if he is MW champ-although he'll have no belts.

And GGG will have to unify and draw talent up from below and down from above. (And eventually laying waist to HBO commentary artist and Court Room junkie Mr. CoWard.)

Hell, Goldenboy may have paid the refs to allow Lemieux to put bricks in his gloved. (JOKING)

                That's why serious it is
