Hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach is not convinced that David Lemieux will do much of anything to test Gennady "GGG" Golovkin when they collide in their IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight unification on October 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The fight will be carried by HBO Pay-Per-View.

During an interview with Fight Hub, Roach made a prediction that Golovkin would "kill" Lemieux and said GGG can get the job done "whenever he wants."

Well, the so called "true test" will never come, let's just leave it at that.

If he beats Lem, he will suddenly become a bum. If he beats Cotto, he will become too small. If he beats Canelo, he will become too green. Lol, I even think if he'd beat Ward, he would become too inactive..even though I think he would lose that fight..

When the knockout streak will eventually come to an end then people will say "he looked bad","age is showing up" because now its just too standard he knocks his opponent out.

Anyway boxers and fighters in general from Russia (or from other ex-Soviet countries) seem unhumanly strong at this time. Would be interesting to know if this is just pure variance, some dope or just my illusion.

So golovkin unifying with another title holder,who's coming off of a 9 fight win streak is a mismatch and a waste of time? That actually says one of two things; either everyone at middleweight is terrible,and ggg is the only decent fighter,or ggg is so good,that he makes all the other fighters look like bums.

I'm merely commenting on what a Hall of Fame trainer has noticed because I believe it to be true, and yes middleweight is TERRIBLE. Even worse than the Heavyweight division this guy got beat by RUBIO

Yeah terrible. A 22 year old fighter with 20 or so fights steps up in class to fight a TOP 10 fighter with 50+ fights including World Championship fights ... and loses. Yes I know Lemieux was favored to win but still Rubio fought like a veteran. He let Lemieux gas out and then pounced on him. This is what happens sometimes to young prospects when they step up in class.

I don't think middleweight has been a bad division over the years. In fact, over the last 5 years its had a lot of good talent. The problem is that the top fighters have not been facing each other.

Now I happen to think that GGG should be able to stop Lemieux. GGG has more power than Rubio, a far better offense than Rubio, and has (in my opinion) a far better defense than his detractors give him credit for. Is GGG a defensive fighter. No, but neither was Joe Frazier nor Mike Tyson and both had defensive skills.

Still the value of this fight is the belt that Lemieux holds more than Lemieux himself.

As more time passes by, I am starting to believe we will actually see Cotto vs Golovkin next year. Roach seems to be playing up that fight for the near future, as much as he talks about Cotto and Golovkin. Loefler also mentioned he thinks Cotto would fight Golovkin, especially if he stops Canelo. If Cotto/Canelo ends up being close and goes to a decision, a rematch may be more likely, which is why I think Loefler mentioned that if Cotto stops Canelo, then he would see Cotto vs Golovkin come to fruition.

there is no doubt canelo and cotto and the real tests for ggg not over hyped lemiuex i agree. its just a shame that his biggest tests he is way bigger then but that shouldnt stop the fights from happening. Im not one those that think cotto is ducking ggg its obvious cotto and canelo was the fight they were working on had nothing to do with ducking ggg but it sure as hell is going to be interesting to see what the winner of cotto canelo will do. i actually think there is a better chance for cotto ggg then canelo ggg but thats just me. I think if canelo wins oscar will work to get canelo lemieux in the ring get lemieux a ko win and set up canelo lemieux with the winner getting ggg or some garbage like that. well see tho but with ggg not willing to fight ward and what seems like an unwillingness for cotto and canelo to fight ggg its just frustrating
