Comments Thread For: Roach: I'm Betting Both My Homes - Cotto Beats Canelo

Freddie Roach, trainer of WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs), is paying no attention to odds that have Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32KOs) as the betting favorite to beat his fighter on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Roach is very confident that his fighter will turn away the younger man. How confident? He plans to stake both of his homes on a Cotto victory at 3-1 odds.

Gotta hand it to Freddie - he is a great publicist.

3-1 - fuck! - those are serious odds against - most of us and most boxing writers are seeing this as a toss up fight - so what are the bookies seeing that we are not? Unless its just a case of many more bets piling in on Canelo (which I doubt).

I wouldn't be so sure Freddie, Cotto has been in a lot of wars and he hasn't fought a good fighter in his prime in a very long time.

Cotto has all the tools to beat Canelo, it's just that due to the bad level of opposition he's accustomed to now, that fighting Canelo would be a bit too much for him, of course Canelo also has size, power and youth advantages, he's a much fresher fighter.

The analyst part in me leans towards Cotto cuz of the disparity of skills between him and Canelo, but my inner feeling leans a bit towards Canelo cuz of youth, freshness, strength and power, which makes this a 50-50 fight in my book.
