Comments Thread For: Carl Frampton Posts Healthy TV Ratings in The UK

Carl Frampton’s IBF Super bantamweight title defence against Alejandro Gonzalez Junior in El Paso, Texas on Saturday night brought in a higher terrestrial TV audience than his fifth-round TKO win over Chris Avalos earlier this year.

It was shown live on ITV here in the U.K., his second fight on the network, and went head-to-head with Sky TV's Manchester Arena bill.

The popular Irishman hit a peak of 2.4 million at 10.55pm, with an average of 1.7 million in total (C/O @SportOnTheBox), which edges out the 1.1m (1.9 peak) he netted back in February. Down twice in the first round, Frampton (21-0, 14 KOs) rallied to earn a deserved decision win.

If it's not competing with MOTD, the numbers will always be good.

The fight did well oveseas. But the US TV ratings were terrible. CBS did less then 1mil and it's now the 3 out of 4 PBC on CBS fight cards to flop and not reach 1mil viewers

Nonetheless, Frampton did very well on UK tv... Which was the main target...

Makes sense for this card though. Frampton is a well established name over here and he has the backing of whole chunk of the UK. It was also on at prime time slot rather than afternoon.

frampton should be fighting over here, not in empty bingo halls in america

At the very least he should be in Boston or something with Andy Lee as co main.

Haymon makes some weird decisions sometimes.

I think he was hoping to introduce him to Mexican fans to build a LSC clash.

That's the point. PBC lost tons of money having the fight in the US where not many fans showed up or even watched it on free TV. If you have a real promoter behind this and put it in the UK where it makes money instead of loses money.
