Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr.: If I Can’t Beat Reyes, I’ll Consider Retiring

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s next fight is clearly intended as a comeback bout, one that’ll help him rebuild and rebound from an April technical knockout loss to Andzrej Fonfara.

He’ll face Marcos Reyes, a longtime 154- and 160-pounder who is 33-2 with 24 KOs, is coming off a win over David Lopez and, before that, a majority decision loss to Abraham Han. While Chavez Jr. was once a middleweight titleholder, he’s outgrown that division, having fought Brian Vera at 172 and 168 pounds before unsuccessfully challenging Fonfara at a catch-weight of 172. Chavez took punishment and then quit shortly after a knockdown, citing an injury.

i just dont see how haymon gets backlash for chavez jr losing..i'm sure the plan was to let the former 130lber win a 175 title or at least fight for it in a huge fight with stevenson...THAT MAKES SENSE TO ME..all this top rank vs haymon crap that these bias fans buy into...tr was protecting him yet killing his legacy...haymon gave him a chance to be great..if he blows it then it is on him..i like the manager idea better than the protector idea...u protect yourself in the gym and in your daily lifestyle right and else will fall in place..

"If I can't beat Reyes I'll consider retiring," and at the same time, "Nobody can beat me when I fight at my weight." Mysterious philosophy.

Killing his legacy?? Ole Bob obviously isn't ******. And because he is smarter then the average bear he realized early on that the only thing Junior had going for him was his name. Therefore Top Rank wanted to cash Junior out with GGG and honestly I believe that was the best scenario. Simply put, Top Rank realized they were dealing with a very limited product and dealt with it accordingly.
