Comments Thread For: Klitschko-Fury: Eddie Hearn Hints at Entering Purse Bid

There could be some competition at the World Boxing Association's mandatory purse bid between Tyson Fury (24-0, 18KOs) and Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53KOs), who currently holds the WBA, IBO, WBO and IBF world titles.

The purse bid is set for July 6th in Panama City. Fury is promoted by Hearn's UK rivals, Frank Warren and Mick Hennessey. If Hearn were to scoop in and outbid the competition, then he would place it on Sky Sports instead of Warren's network, BoxNation. Hearn would also look to place it in a UK stadium, where the fight would likely sell out in a very short time period.

I thought PBC was on a strict budget per fight, ie 2m. It would be interesting if Warriors boxing staged the fight in the US, HBO could be overlooked and Showtime could screen the fight as promotion for a Wlad vs Wilder unification.

Is Hearn trying to rattle Warren with this talk ? Using one of his fighters to promote his shows lol ! I don't understand why their would be huge call for this fight in the UK, Fury had trouble selling tickets in his home town, and they've already voiced concerns over stadia upon the soccer season starting in the summer.

That's probably what it is. I doubt anyone is going to outbid K2.

Well I'm thinking the bid will be around 2.5m euro, with Fury expecting a fifth of that to split between himself, Big Mick, Peter and Warren, I would not be surprised if they accepted a million from K2 before the purses.

Is this a ROC trying to intimidate Haymon type scenario when they poached the Quillin Korabov fight ?

Have Sky screened any Klitschko fights lately, I thought British Euro Sports had been screening them, what interest would Hearn have in this Joshua is a long way from facing Klitschko, or so I thought.

-Thumb in the eye of Warren/Hennessey

-Klistchko vs Fury is actually a pretty big fight, that will generate a massive amount of money.

-Possibly, again this is a massive long shot, to piss in HBO's cereal; If Hearn were to win the bid for Klitschko-Fury, he'd have sole right to broadcast the fight, likely choosing Sky Box Office domestically, with the possibility of broadcasting the fight in the US on Haymon's PBC platforms (a 10pm fight in London, matches up to a 3pm fight time in New York and a 12pm fight time in Las Vegas, perfectly time-situated for one of Haymon's Saturday afternoon broadcasts. With Klitschko/Fury-Wilder likely to come due next year, you set up another massive Sky Box Office event for Matchroom Sport).
