Comments Thread For: Bey Vacates Title; IBF Orders Shafikov-Barthelemy Clash

The IBF lightweight title is now up for grabs, after reigning titlist Mickey Bey relinquished the crown in lieu of honoring his mandatory obligations.

Bey (21-1-1, 10KOs) was slated to face top-rated challenger Denis Shafikov on July 18 in Macao, China. The bout was placed on a show promoted by Top Rank, who earned the right to host the fight as the sole bidder during a purse bid hearing earlier this year.

The show will go on in Macao, just without the lightweight title fight as Bey has since had a change of heart about traveling abroad.

Just ******. Bey didn't deserve to get that title in the first place. Now he won't even defend it because of the purse.

Bullsheeeeat. I'm no fan of the guy, but Vazquez should've been first in line for that shot. He was jobbed against Bey.

I heard rumor that Bey is having money problems; not fighting is like the exact opposite of what he should be doing.

WTF is Mayweather Promos doing with their prospects? 1st defense & he drops the titles?

Bey did not beat Vazquez IMO so who cares.

As for ordering Rances Barthelemy...he can still make 135? He is going to be a HUGE 135. Barthelemy is already Top 10 at 140 and is climbing fast.

As for Bey, likely got something better on the table for way more money.

Mickey Bey didn't do **** against Vazquez, neither really did, but now that Vazquez got robbed and its time to defend, Bey doesnt wanna get cracked and stopped and stripped of his fake ass belt. Vazquez should still have his belt, but if I have to choose between them, Shafikov should have it as he didn't actually completely embarrass himself by actually blatantly robbing him the way Bey shamelessly did.

Haymon will make sure Mickey Bey cements his legacy as the biggest paper champ of all time. Basing it off the Lamont Peterson blueprint, of course.
                    lol Called it.
And that should be Vazquez in there with Shafikov, not Barthelemy, dudes signed with Haymon but I don't see any of his pull used in his favor. Instead some guy that doesn't even fight at 135 gets it.
