Comments Thread For: Antonio DeMarco To Retire After Barthelemy Defeat

Former world champion Antonio DeMarco has decided to hang up his gloves, after being defeated by Cuba's Ranees Barthelemy via unanimous decision on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas.

"I don't want to offer excuses to all of the people that trusted me and my family. I'm calm, but at the same time disappointed. However I do believe In cycles and mine is about to end."

De Marco conquered the WBC lightweight championship after defeating Venezuelan Jorge Linares in 2011. He successfully defended twice, before losing it to Adrien Broner.

That face first style of fighting does not lead to a long career. Hope he saved up some good money and has a great life after boxing

He's not a face first style fighter, but he would always show up to fight. I do too hope him and his family enjoy a great life now that he's made the decision to retire from boxing.

DeMarco doesn't have a face first style of boxing, show respect to the warriors that keep the sport alive.

Not everyone have the physical tools to perform the shoulder roll or the speed to box from the outside that others have but Demarco was a fine puncher boxer that only lost to the best of his generation.

A face fighter, imo, is a guy that hooks without a jab, tries to get close with wide punches. DeMarco missed a lot of hooks and ate a lot of counters.

I'll always remember him as the last guy to fight Valero (and giving him a vicious cut via headbutt); for that spectacular comeback against Linares; and for blowing out Molina Jr. in one round with that beauty of a straight left.

                    Live well, champ. :box2:
