Comments Thread For: Team Wilder: We're Not Going To Sit, Wait For Povetkin

As krikya360.com previously reported, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 32KOs) is going to stay very active and wants to fight at least four times this year - with September 26th as the target return date.

He returned to the ring in January, winning the WBC title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Bermane Stiverne at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Wilder came to action last Saturday night in Alabama and knocked out Eric Molina in nine rounds.

Already not sounding good for the so called mandatory bout. What a surprising turn of events...

Povetkin fought in May. Why wouldn't he be ready to go in Sept? lol

And his fight lasted a full 20 seconds... Wilder's team sounds like they're stalling.

Povetkin is willing to fight in September, but Wilder wants to fight another journeyman on September 26 and delay his mandatory until next year.

Sadly, the WBC complied with Wilder's request to delay the negotiations until October.

Yeah, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
It's right there for both of them. Fight each other.
If they can't come to terms then it goes to purse bids. Bids between Haymon and the Rooskies could get interesting

Well, ****. I wasn't aware the WBC granted him that request.
Wonder if that WBC belt has *******? lol

Wilder clearly needs some more ring time, I don't see much harm in him tuning up some cans while the big fight is negotiated. The "ready for September" thing sounds great but what a fighter says and what goes on in business negotiations, for a world title no less, are two different things.

Damn straight, the champ waits for no man.

Looking forward to the next brutal ko in alabama

I think it's pretty apparent that they want Wilder to get more experience before facing Povetkin. He's still learning... but they should've thought of that before getting a belt and calling him the "HW champ of the world". Can't have it both ways.
