And even in his prime he was never a PPV draw.
your logic is flawed. that's like saying, ''which boxers have retired or had a long leave and never came back as champions or continued a great career.'' Carl Froch didn't want to take another Ward fight anyways.

Truth of the matter is Ward's press and restart all comes down to how he handles Paul Smith. That's the obvious. He goes in there with an excellent game plan all you're going to hear is ''Ward is back.'' and then the real bouts come back again. GGG is old news.

the difference is ward hasnt been calling out kovalev in public while refusing to negotiate. golovkin and his people brought up wards name several times only to then back down from an actual fight. ward never brought up kovalevs name as someone he wanted next and when someone brought it to him he has been consistent, he will fight him but not at the time being. which is reasonable atm given his layoff.

golovkin is finally saying ward would happen down the road, his words are consistent with his actions. provided he actually does fight ward down the line which i still doubt. but i will give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

neither fight "needs" to happen, a fighter has to fight the best in his division to call himself a champion. but he has every right to choose which division that is. if either ward or golovkin want to campaign at 160 or 168 respectively for the rest of their careers thats well within their right and entirely up to them. many great champions spent their entire career in a single weightclass.

the real hypocrisy is how people want mayweather to fight golovkin who is way too big for him, yet those same people dont think golovkin should move up to fight ward who has a marginal size advantage by comparison.

The only thing you see here is GGG fans saying they want to see Cotto vs GGG or Canelo vs GGG and then people jump in with Golovkin is ducking Ward doe! Then someone says Ward is ducking Kovalev doe!

It's silly. There are weight classes here. Golovkin is set on unifying the middleweight division. Cotto is lineal champ, Canelo is moving up to middleweight. Ward is obviously at 168 and just now got his legal issues taken care of and finally getting back into the ring and will have 1-2 tune up fights depending on how the Smith fight goes. Golovkin vs Ward will happen. People need to chill since it quite obviously can't happen immediately. Both Ward and Golovkin have both said that is a fight they want down the road. No problem there. Let GGG do his thing, Ward does his and they'll have a great fight later.

As for Kovalev, he's been the best of his division but don't really know WTF happened with the Adonis fight. Kovalev looking like the one who doesn't want it because the way Duva mishandled that situation. Hopefully they'll fight eventually. As for a Ward fight, doesn't matter unless Ward decides to move up. He has no obligation to do so, people need to chill on that as well and realize no fighter is obliged to move up in weight. You can't duck a fighter that's not in your own division, it's ridiculous.
It's absolutely clear as day that many Golovkin fans pray to Jesus every night that Ward moves up to 175lbs and the fight never happens.

Wards trainer said ward needs tune ups before golovkin

Golovkin wants cotto/Canelo before moving up

The "problem" is being created by fans wanting to complain

Golovkin would be waiting for ward the same amount as of time as Canelo

          I don't see the problem

I think ward beats golovkin by points

But kovalev has a good chance vs ward. If ward gets close to kovalev , sergey is screwed

But if he can use his reach and height and step back when ward tries getting close then kova could beat him

Hit ward when he's moving backwards and near the ropes. And when ward wants to fight , you move.

Kova has the tools to beat ward

What bugs me about all this, is that there is still this misconception around here thinking that 168 is still some golden division. Ward tore that division up and the rest got old. Now we are looking at a bunch of fringe dudes fighting for belts.

In fact, 160 would be healthier right now if you could get the best in the division to fight each other. At least it has some young talent on the rise.
168 is becoming a wasteland. Froch is basically gone. We do not know where Ward is. We see the likes of Bika, Anthony Dirrell, Abraham, Smith and Badou Jack fighting for belts. 168 is no longer healthy. It is a thin division like Middleweight.

So if GGG moved up, he would find one guy willing to fight him, with a bunch of others not willing to fight him. If he stays where he is, he "might" land a big fight and payday. At his age and stage, moving up and then back down might not be an option.

It is the same if he tried to move down in weight. If he dried himself out to 154, he would not be the same fighter. A fighter over 30 playing the weight bouncing game is a fighter looking to shorten their career. If he waits a while though, there are some decent big guys at 154 who will outgrow their division.

Andre Ward unified his division. He already fought in the big unification matches in his weight class.

GGG hasn't unified a damn thing. He's basically unproven. His opponents are mostly constituted of average fighters with average to below average skillsets.

Meanwhile Ward has already been in with POUND FOR POUND level comp.

What about GGG? What top 20 pound for pound has he been in with?

Kovalev's best victory is over a 50 year old Bernard Hopkins. LOL! SMH

Kov and GGG are two untested, overrated, hyped, HBO created, slow, modern day Great White Hypes!

Just like the Klitshkos have been feasting on BUMS for decades it seems like, ironically, so have GGG and Kovalev. Hmmmmm...

Terrance Crawford has already been matched tougher than GGG/Kov. So has Canelo and by a wide margin.

GGG and Kov will always be leaps and bounds BEHIND Andre Ward from a skill perspective.

Andre is quicker than both of those stiff backed hypejobs. He fights with more ring intelligence and athleticism. Can't hit what you can't find. Plus his counters are nasty.

Andre will rough both of these boys up real good. After Ward beats either one of these stiff backs, the forum will be crying just as loud as the Pacquiao fan base was on May 3rd. LOL!

Bernard Hopkins has been on record for years now saying he'll never fight Andre Ward. Yet at 50 years old, he risked his health to fight Kovalev. And still went 12 with him. LOL!

Yet believers of the good ol HYPE TRAIN believe these two are ready for Andre Ward.

                Roger Mayweather never lied.....
I know it hurts seeing GGG, Kovalev and Lomachenko humiliate and trample the brothas but you'll get over it one day.

Everyone is saying GGG is ducking Ward but fail to mention Ward isn't rushing to get in the ring with Kovalev either. We have to put things in perspective and we have to be fair. I can give GGG more of a pass because he comes in at 159 showing he can easily make 160 with no issues. Ward knows that his clinching tactics won't work against Kovalev. Ward sees Kovalev as a threat and it's fairly obvious. Those criticizing GGG should look at what Ward is doing and be more objective. Kovalev vs Ward needs to be made.
Boxing fans ask for GGG to fight Ward because GGG, not entirely of his own doing, has never fought or defeated a top tier opponent. Fans want to know if he is really that good or is it his opposition.

GGG/Kov fans ask for Ward to fight Kov because they think Kov wins but are not sure GGG can beat Ward. Ward has proven he can defeat top tier competition.

Both Ward and GGG said they would go up to fight so both should be held to it.
