Comments Thread For: Kovalev Update: Team Changes, Mohammedi in Russia?

Understandably, WBA/IBF/WBO light heavyweight king Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1, 24 KOs), fresh off his demolition of capable Canadian Jean Pascal, remains a popular figure in the Russian sports scene and common media. A couple of news items posted in the last week is presented below.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to TASS, the champion is planning to enhance his team with a new coach.

“I’ll still work with John (David Jackson) but I’d like to add another specialist to the squad”, said Kovalev. “Right now I’m winning on my character and desire alone. I need to increase my technical arsenal. I’m still calling for my first coach, Vladimir Victorovich Roschenko, but he has a heart condition and other health issues. He has given so much to me in my amateur days. He still helps with good advice nowadays”.

This shows how serious this guy is about being great. That's right Kovalev, its your career, your legacy, no time to worry about hurt feelings, if you want to get better than you seek for it, hats off to you and your family champ.

Kovalev deserves a fight at home. He has fought pretty much everywhere else.

And he's right, it was hot as a swamp in Florida this winter. We had like one day where the temperature went below 20 degrees.

So essentially he's moving his training camp to California because Florida is too hot (and humid) and to be closer to family.

Doesn't sound like he's all that happy with his coach either, I guess the rumors about that pre-Pascal were true.

nothing specific but it was supposedly reported in the canadian press that there were problems within the camp, some people were picking Pascal on that basis

Kovalev has already changed coach twice since being in the US, he was with Abel Sanchez and another coach as well before Jackson. It's weird because he always seems to be performing well.
