Tons of misinformation in this one. Both Oscar and Cotto's adviser confirmed that the May 2nd date was negotiated but that if Pac/May actually happened they had flexibility to push it back. No on thought Pac/May would actually happen when they were negotiating.
And what was Canelo supposed to do, wait forever for Cotto? Niguelito still hasn't picked an opponent and we are almost into April. Golden Boy would send a contract and not hear back for weeks. Cotto didn't want it. He wants an easy payday before he gets his ass beat by either Canelo or GGG. Funny how after reports that HBO won't take Cotto's next fight unless they are guaranteed a Canelo fight suddenly they are negotiating. Face it, Cotto ducked Canelo twice and is now being forced to make the fight.

hile declining to get into the specifics, Penagaricano said it came down to the split of the money.
"It's always the financial side. There was no agreement on that," he said. "I don't know what would have happened if we had more time. If Oscar doesn't have more time, he doesn't have more time. It's a great fight, but Miguel doesn't need it for his career. So if it doesn't happen, so be it. He's OK. No problem. If Oscar needs to move he needs to move. We're not going to go back to them. We'll huddle and meet Miguel on Tuesday, and we will start planning."
Cotto didn't want it.
"Gaby Penagaricano on Cotto being the A-side and deserving the lion's share of the purses:
Obviously, and Canelo and Oscar's side, they recognize that but that's not the problem. But the question is, How much of the lion's share? that one guy should get and what the other should get. So that's it.
On the venue, given Cotto almost traditionally fights in New York in June:
"I would say that there is no leading candidate. I think that Las Vegas, Texas and New York ; the three of them are the leading candidates. I would not discard any of them as far as being one of the possible venues yet."

Typical Cotto before a big fight. Let the other guy get the much harder challenge while he takes yet another tune up.
