    yes. yes it is.

cherrypicks has nothing to do with rankings.

it has to do with picking an opponent for an easy win.

Yeah there is no doubt that he is holding the title up which is very annoying. The WBC rule book actually says that a champion has to defend every 120 days. They should have ordered him to fight Golovkin when the Canelo deal collapsed and stripped him if he refused.

no sh^t. thats why I said he's probably top 15. WBC has him at #1

Cotto is entitled to a voluntary so in one sense fighting Heiland is perfectly fine but in another it is not a fight many really want to see and therefore not a fight that will generated big money. Therefore what is the point of it?
The point is that he gets one voluntary defense. Which you are ok with so I don't see why you keep arguing that point.

Well you seem to care about the sport, how has that worked out for you all these years? Standards have been dropping and dropping, it's never going to change. I'm saying your energy is better spend elsewhere than complaining about changing boxing for the better and it simply isn't going to happen.

Not fighting for a year is really piling it on unnecessarily, plenty of fighters have only fought once a year for a variety of reasons I'm not going to give him crap for that. If the WBC felt he didn't want to fight anyone they could have stripped him and they haven't because of money. It's just time to realize money is what makes fights happen, nothing else matters. It sucks, but it's reality.

How can an undersized, overachiever cherry pick? Is Cotto a good or bad fighter you can't have it both ways.

Considering how inactive he has been i'm not ok with it plus I'm disappointed in the quality of the opponent irrespective of Heiland's ranking. Cotto had Canelo and Golovkin ready for him. Both big money fights.

When I said earlier that in one sense it was fine to fight the #1 ranked WBC opponent I was referring to the situation as it has now unfortunately played out.

so that means he doesn't have to fight top opposition?

if cotto was fighting 2-3 times a year. cherry picks/tuneups/stay busy fights are fine. part of the game.

but if he wants to fight once a year no.

if he mights ggg or canelo next this fight can be excused. til then jotto deserves the criticism he gets.
