Comments Thread For: Duva: No Talks With Stevenson at Kovalev-Pascal

Light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson was at the Bell Centre as fellow Quebec-based fighter Jean Pascal lost to Sergey Kovalev via eighth-round technical knockout.

There weren’t any conversations between Kovalev’s promoter and Stevenson about a long-awaited showdown, however.

“I was too busy trying to calm my heart down and catch my breath to negotiate,” said Kathy Duva of Main Events, referencing the swings in momentum during Kovalev-Pascal.

It will be interesting to see what happens, if Kov got a contract to only fight on HBO and Haymon has his pbc thing.

Why bother negotiating now? Kovalev is mandatory. That time will come soon.

Al will have Stevenson drop the belt. He won't deal with HBO and HBO will not let Kovalev fight on another network. This isn't Mayweather/Pac where the money is so huge that people will swallow their pride to make it happen.

I agree, it's not happening. For the reasons you listed. If Chavez beats fonfara I'd expect them to try and make that fight.

It will go to purse bids and haymon will win that's if Stevenson doesn't duck. I just don't think there is any way this is on HBO. It will probably end up on showtime they will be willing to pay.

Stevenson won't vacate, that belt means too much for him. He's well aware that fighting Kovalev at this moment will be his biggest payday, even if he's making a lot vs guys like Bika.

What you've written makes sense, but I still hope that they fight.
