That would be dumb on Cotto's part to go straight into a rematch without a tuneup first.

He shouldn't have scrapped that December fight he was going to have.

Why would it be dumb? If anything rest is what Cotto needs, he's been in too many wars he could use some time off. Besides, he's only fought once a year for the past 2 years he'll be just fine.

Cotto has a real shot vs. Mayweather at MW. He carried his power with him to the weight and he showed the ability to tag Floyd in their first fight.

I reckon it'll be Money-Manny 2. Besides isn't GGG the mandatory to Cotto, surely that fight will be ordered before then and Cotto will be forced to vacate, upon vacaing Floyd won't have any interest in owning the dude again.

No. I don't think Cotto wants to fight Canelo. It's a big money fight for him but I think he fears a knockout defeat. Canelo punches harder than men who have knocked Cotto out before. Canelo goes for the KO and he usually gets it. Cotto can handle a points loss to Mayweather but a KO loss would probably be the end of his career. Look at his possible next opponent. Rios, Bradley, or Bundrage. None of those three can beat him or even knock him down. Cotto is not a big risk taker these days. I am glad he knocked Martinez out of boxing but he needs to be a better champion than Martinez was.

There is no rematch clause, they aren't fighting again unless Floyd loses and he's not losing. Even if Manny wins there won't be a rematch in my opinion, Floyd wouldn't take less money and he would have to in that case. Cotto also has a voluntary defense first and it's good until the end of year I think. Besides they aren't going to strip him if Canelo or GGG are options for the title. It's a much bigger fee for the WBC.

If he does that I hope he winds up with nothing, just like in May.

For Floyd it is a legacy fight due to the MW title. For Cotto it is the biggest payday out there and he believes he can win.

Now that Mayweather-Pacquiao is happening, it is the next logical fight.
