Comments Thread For: Khan: Legends Told Me Only I Can Beat Mayweather

British superstar Amir Khan is convinced his style of fighting, combined with his physical dimensions, would present the biggest problems in the welterweight division for Floyd Mayweather Jr. We are on the verge of the biggest announcement in boxing, for Mayweather to face Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

During the WBC's December convention, Khan spoke with numerous legends of the sport. Khan claims those fighters told him he was the only fighter capable of taking Mayweather's undefeated record out.

To be fair he's just asking for fights like any other boxer out there. He didn't tell boxingscene to write an article every time he coughs. He obviously has a big fan on the staff or something.

If De La Hoya couldn't beat Mayweather I doubt Khan could. Oscar was taller than Khan, rangier than Khan, had more mass than Khan, more experience, more punching power, a better chin than Khan, nearly equivalent hand speed, and won an Olympic gold Medal and he STILL came up short against Mayweather.

Khan may be a little faster than Oscar was at the time but if you go back and watch that fight Oscar's hands were still pretty quick. Oscar was a superior fighter to Amir khan in every way, better genetics and better skills and he couldn't get the job done.

Now I know many of you will bring up Oscar's age at the time, well a 34 year old Oscar who held the WBC light middle weight title was better than a 28 year old strapless at welterweight Khan.

If an all in all superior fighter couldn't beat Mayweather, Khan cannot!

How many of those legends post on BoxingScene? Exactly, their opinion is therefore, irrelevant.

It was still a close fight and that is the type of outcome Khan is aiming for, but only unanimous. Khan is also younger, more active.

Khan is still fast, more active. His blinding speed disguises his jab, followed by the straight right, I mean of course it is yet to be see how well he can do it against Mayweather.

              Opinion, not a fact.

Btw Jurgen Brahmer and Scott Quigg are also strap holders.

Now I'm only saying this because you seem to put a lot of weight on belts in this section of your post.

He was still over the hill. That is that. Not the Oscar who beat Vargas.

If Oscar is so superior why did he lose all his big fights? I have not even touched on Felix Sturm, who was just a 20-0 belt holder at the time?

How superior is Maidana btw who arguably had a draw in his first bout?

                  Enough already....

Khan needs to pump his brakes a bit & chill...He's gonna get his opportunity at one of the big boys in due time...All he has to do is keep winning...He's prolly only a fight or two away...Amir needs to exhibit a lil patience...If he hadn't gotten himself KOed by Garcia he would have in all likelihood met a Mayweather or Pac by now....
