Back in Jan 2012, Ken Hershman (then the Showtime chief, and now president of HBO Sports) personally took his protege (i.e. Andre Ward) with him... From Sho to HBO... The fact that Ward didn't want to fight anymore isn't Hershman fault -- Hersham always believed that Andre was the future P4P #1...
3 years later Hershman has forgotten all about Andre. He didn't help Andre at all when he was mired in a promotional dispute with Goosen. He won't throw Andre a bone now even though he is coming off 15 months of inactivity and counting.

I have little doubt that the larger, more experienced, more talented and more proven Ward would win. Golovkin has more lucrative and more winnable fights at MW available to him. Any fight at SMW will be more marketable after those fights. Golovkin has more lucrative and winnable fights at SMW he could take as he builds the muscle needed to grow into that weight class. Which would give him the experience at that weight he would need to make the Ward fight more competitive. I can't imagine Ward will still be at SMW by then, he was fighting at LHW in the AMs a decade ago FFS.

Ward chose to create that mess with Goosen. Hershman threw him a bone with the color commentator job to help keep him relevant. Now you're crying it's unfair that Andre can't get $2mill to fight guys Kovalev already beat for $300k?

Ward only fought at LHW in order to make room for Dirrell at MW, Andre was essentially fighting out of his weight class during that period.

Who does Roc Nation have for him to fight? Haymon is signing a lot of fighters from 168-175 and Ward will be odd man out. He needs to get back soon to get his name back in the public.

No, he just signed to Roc Nations and there's still good fights and $ to be made for him. He seems to stay in shape which should help too.

Now, let's be honest: was it Hershman's fault? Ward lost 2 times against Goossen in court... Do you think Hershman had to bribe some judge or something? Hershman was loyal and truthful -- he paid Ward over $2 million for his last fight... But he can't let him sit back and ask for a Sartison tune up... It isn't professional...

Ward destroyed his career by himself...
But I don't really know; at some point (not long ago) he said that he was in boxing for 20 years now and was contemplating retirement...

Nothing really new. James Prince basically saying April...no opponent.

Andre Ward in talks to return to action

The return of Andre Ward to the ring is a development I’ve been harping on. Why? Because the RING super middleweight champion might just be the best pure boxer on the planet.

The Oakland-based hitter, on the shelf with some injuries off and on, and then because of a contractual beef with then-promoter, the late Dan Goossen, is real close to gloving up again.

I heard rumblings that current promoter Roc Nation Sports, the entity headed up by mega mogul Jay Z, is readying to put on its second show, likely sometime in April. I touched base with Roc Boxing spokesperson Ron Berkowitz to try and nail down some specifics. Is there a show common in April? “We are talking about it,” he told me yesterday.

I reached out to Ward adviser James Prince to get the scoop. “There have been a lot of conversations,” he told me. “Nothing is set in stone. Things are being discussed.” He didn’t shoot down a possible return on an April Roc date, should that come to fruition.

And what foes are in the mix? Prince didn’t want to get into that. Names we know and maybe some guys we aren’t as familiar with, maybe an Eastern Euro hitter or what have you, could be in contention.

Prince told me we could hear real, real soon what’s next for Ward, absent from the ring since beating Edwin Rodriguez (UD12) on Nov. 16, 2013.
