Comments Thread For: Omar Figueroa Can Land at 147 Very Soon, Says Diaz

Forget about Omar Figueroa (24-0-1, 18KOs) ever fighting in the lightweight division.

Following last August's knockout of mandatory challenger Daniel Estrada, Figueroa revealed that he was likely moving up due to difficulties with making the 135-pound limit.

Figueroa's title was already removed from him by the WBC, and the vacant belt was captured last month by Jorge Linares.

Crawford, mickey Garcia and Figueroa all moving up, suddenly 140 turn out to be the hottest division...

Been saying this for a while. Figueroa's much better at the higher weights. 135 has always been hell for him to make.

Omar should stick it out at 140 for 3 or 4 fights before moving up to 147 though.

Heh, fighters, trainers, etc. should stop talking about how far up in weight they're eventualy going to go, before actually doing work in the next division up...

In Omar's case - he's yet to even take care of any serious business at his CURRENT weight.

Although he does seem to have the frame/height to go up to welterweight.

Omar is young, doe... Even 140 seems too much for him right now... He has to act cautiously even at 140 -- with that fragile hands of his...

(I do like the kid a lot...)

This. Personally I see Omar as a paper champ. The entire time at 135 he didn't have one truly significant fight. His title defenses were "meh", his best win is who? Estrada? Belmontes? Cotto? Arakawa? All decent fighters in their own right but subpar in terms of defining a "best win" for a young champion.

His fragile hands are doing him no favors and at 140 and 147 he'll get eaten alive. Hope I'm proven wrong by Omar in the future but I'm quite sure he won't. A fragile handed brawler with very little regard for defense won't survive at those weights.

... But the kid is very likeable, as a person... he looks like a junior college nerd...

He wasn't convicing even in 135 so imo in 140 or 147 which are both way more deep weightclasses he will get sparked out in a ruthless fashion against his first truly dangerous opponent.

Wtf? The guy would get killed at 147

He won't have enough to keep guys off him especially with his hand issues
