Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto Climbs Back To a Very Strong Position

It is amazing how a fighter's career can go from the valley of defeat to the pinnacle of success within an 18-month period.

Take the case of Miguel Cotto.

It was December 1, 2012 when Miguel Cotto lost a 12 round unanimous decision to Austin Trout in front of a partisan crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Almost six months prior to the Trout fight, Cotto lost a decision to Floyd Mayweather.

Cotto is a great fighter, a future hall of famer. And will beat Canelo clearly when that fight gets signed.

I'm not so sure about it.

Canelo belongs to 160 , Cotto has the frame of a welterweight.

Saul is bigger, fresher and younger, Cotto is probably a slightly better boxer but he is not the kind of guy who uses a lot of lateral movement.

Even if he decides to box his offense is based on his left hand and he needs to get into mid range to land his hooks.

I don't think he's fast enough to move in and out without being countered.

In any case, we are talking about getting a decision against Saul!, nobody gets a clear decision against him!.

According to some he's already up on two scorecards.

His career has been so dramatic filled with many glorious conquests and some crushing defeats to now a blazing resurgence. In fact his career has been so epic and full of theatre as crazy as this sounds if he were to defeat Mayweather in the rematch his legacy immediately..immediately surpasses Floyd's in the best of this era race.

I thought the WBC had order him to fight Golovkin.

I've always been a fan of Cotto for always fighting the best guys in his weight class. I really hope this fight against Canelo gets made.

Cotto has the most leverage in the entire sport right now. Everyone from 140-168 would be interested in fighting him, and he can pick and choose from every single one of them.

Al Haymon reached out to Cotto when Floyd said that making the Manny fight was his only focus
