Guadalajara's superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) is craving a showdown with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Angel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) on May 2. Canelo is currently on vacation and rehabbing an ankle injury. His promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, is trying to lock in a deal to face Cotto on the date.

Canelo says there are other options if the deal falls through, but he won't step away from the May date - even tough Floyd Mayweather Jr. is planning to fight on the date as well.

Fighters and fights make the date not the other way around.

Chavez/De La Hoya/Mayweather/Pacquiao have all fought on those dates and had big PPV buys. The thing is they are all superstars, Rocky Juarez fought a rematch with Barrera on the September date in 2006. The fight which had a great under card pulled 165k buys.

Those dates might add 5-10% because they have become synonymous with a big fight but without the right fights/fighters it's just another weekend.
