That said, the mounting medical evidence that headgear doesn't protect from long-term damage supported that move as well. The only issue now is that cuts, headbutts etc. are a huge issue in amateur boxing because of the tournament format. For guys fighting several times a week it's a big deal to get cut.

I do agree gym wars can do alot of damage to a fighter. Not because of the headgear but because of the number of sparring rounds and at times in the gym people tend to spar whoever is available beyond or below their weight class

I have no doubt that had a 40yr old Hopkins fought KOvalev he would have sneaked a UD, but an old man who's punching power lets face it probably some of the 180lb posters on here could withstand, was simply not going to win.
this forum never fails to provide hilarious lines like this
edit: I actually can't get over this one. I weigh like 175, in not so great shape but not too fat with a bit of muscle, and i have some previous boxing experience, and i wouldn't bet a cent on myself being able to take a clean right hand from hopkins. He would drop me so hard i wouldn't know what planet i was on. Fck people are ****** man.Last edited by Suckmedry; 12-06-2014, 12:47 AM.
