Pacquiao-Vargas, even in the US, isn't going to do much more than 400k buys, and that's the "in case Bob can't get Mayweather"(lol) emergency choice. Outside of a fifth Marquez fight, there's not a Top Rank-promoted fight that can be expected to cover Pacquiao's guarantee on PPV.

Logically, what leverage does Arum go into the "negotiations" with Moonves with when, as any logical executive would do, he asks his operations guy at Showtime Sports about the Mayweather revenues, and comes back to ask Arum about his revenues for Pacquiao? lol
When you look at the big picture and how much money this fight would generate, it's not a good deal based on total revenue. Also for Floyd, he would not make nowhere near as much vs anyone else not named Pacquiao. this is easily a $200million dollar fight. Its being reported that Floyd has been offered $110mil while Pacquiao is being offered $80mil. Now those #'s are more realistic given the magnitude of this fight.

Now with Pac being offered $80mil do you still think $40mil was a good deal? I can tell you right now that Floyd will cry and moan about how much Pacquiao is making and demand more. This is where the fight will hit a snag.

And that doesn't even count the federal tax deduction offset regarding the state income/sales tax and the federal deductions regarding ******** winnings/losses, among other things.

It's just shocking that anyone would pay for this fight.

Those fights were before Pacquiao got KTFO by Marquez; with Pacquiao being 'mortal', the casual boxing fan has lost all interest in him, as seen by the collapse in the PPV numbers.

You put on Pacquiao-Clottey tomorrow and that fight does maybe 400k; you try and put on Pacquiao-Bradley 3 and that fight might do 700k.

The fight was always destined to do bad, not just because of a no name in Algieri, but because the fight was in China. The sense of belonging to the event is not there. Look at what Manny - Rios did.

I really doubt PPV numbers in the US matter that much to Arum or Manny for this fight. Money is what matters and they probably would have made a similar amount from the revenue received from the casios & paying less tax on their earning than had it done 700k in US.

-It's $40m plus an upside on the PPV, not just $40m; If the fight were to do $500m in PPV revenue, Mayweather/Pacquiao would get their guarantees (~$40m each) and Pacquiao would walk away with an additional $60m off of the upside.

Beyond that, the $110m being offered to Floyd has been thrown about without any reference to the upside on the PPV. Floyd gets $110m, Pacquiao gets $80m, and even if the fight "only" does $500m on PPV, that's still ~$60m unaccounted for, plus whatever other money that would be coming in through the sale of the broadcast rights around the world.

Add up all the TV rights and you're looking at $75m still to be spoken for. Floyd's not going to stand for Top Rank walking away with that, especially after the fallout ($8m and a penny to fight Baldomir, after Arum talked of Mayweather never earning an $8m purse anywhere else, kinda set the tone).

Floyd can fight without the hassle of ever working with Bob Arum, and still take home $40m a fight (with vs Cotto 2 and Alvarez 2 still being massive potential fights for him), to add onto the $200m that he's already got [no tax issues], and be just fine

People don't realize, the Venetian in Macau pay TR so much money to have Pacquiao there that his PPV buyrate is not relevant. That's why they didn't care about the opponent. For them to lose money on these shows the buyrate would have to be like a 100K show. A 300k or 400K show is a financial success when they hold it over there because the casino is paying them way more than any American venue would ever consider for an opponent like Algieri.

It was a terrible fight. And one sided beat down.

                      Sure was....

Sure was and I enjoyed it! Manny humbled yet another ****y, undefeated fighter. It's not Manny's fault. He'll fight anyone. He does his job every time out. Arum is doing what he can to secure the Floyd fight. People need to stop it with the nonsense about Arum. Floyd is a BULLY but it's certain people in the business you do not bully; Bob Arum is one of those people. Manny Pacquiao is the other one. He will not be able to pick Manny's gloves or any of that BS he pulled with MM.
