Ref could've/should've counted out Algieri. Do you agree?

And the ref saved him when he was nearly gone and holding on by giving him a standing 8 count and time to recover enough to survive.
Very true about the standing 8 count. I was wondering.. what was going on. I didn't see him take a knee.

PAC would've taken him out. The standing 8 out count and the fact he was still disoriented...shows he was really out of it after the left cross knockdown in the 9th.

IMO, Algieri was standing but clearly out of it and not ready to protect himself. He should've been counted out the 1st time.

that ref was horribly in the bag for pacquiao.

not that it would have mattered anyway but still, the lack of fairness in boxing is just shocking considering the time period.

Take it from somebody who bet on Pac getting a KO after round 6, that was a slow count! He also gave him an extra few seconds after that to gain his composure.

I didn't see that at all. If anything that ref gave Algieri as much help as possible in the 9th round to let him last the distance. Any other ref except for Smoger stops that fight.

If someone can post a short clip video of the knockdown and count that would be great for analysis.

I'd do it, but unsure how.

            Thanks.

absolutely, i was ****ing fuming going to sleep as i had a bet on a pacman stoppage.

Algerie got up on 9 turned his back on wobbly leg's, the ref called him back...and ushered him towards him with algerie clearly not wanting to continue and reluctantly coming forward.
just awful and not only robbed pacman of a legit stoppage but robbed me / others of legit money.
              c*nt.

No, the ref made the right call. Algieri was up off the canvas albeit, not all the way, by the count of 9. We criticize refs for incorrectly counting fighters out week after week; for once the ref made the right call

The ref gave him an extra 7-10 seconds to recover. There are some refs who would've stopped it...ie the ref who called the last Golovkin-Rubio fight.
Each time Algieri got floored he looked at the remaining time in the round... He waited as long as he could in order to gain some time -- the hipster's no dumb and he made it to the final bell alright...

I hate this ref, he stopped the Crawford-Gamboa fight but not this one, it was almost the same scenario

i don't think he should have been counted out. if he got up before 10 then it's fine.

but i think it could have been stopped in the 9th because chris was clearly out of it and pac was just wailing on him.

props to algieri for hanging in there though. people doubted chris' heart and his champion spirit and he proved a lot of people wrong.
