Late in the fight Kellergirl said he thought Kovalev was getting tired because his mouth (the Russian, not Max) was open; Roy said "it's been open since the third round".

Maybe Kovalev was just drooling because he knew he had BHops number.

All in all I think RJJ has improved as an announcer. Say what you will about HBO, I will NEVER listen to a Showtime crew with Mauro Ranello yelling constantly. I mute their telecasts.

Roy was terrible in this fight. He was only seeing things from a Hopkins fan POV. I don't know why this was, but I'm damn sure I heard biased commentary the entire fight from him. These things are a lot less subtle when the fight is as lopsided as this one was.

Generally speaking, the HBO crew is steadily getting worse.

Was it not obvious to everyone that Kovalev had tripped in the 12th as well rather than being badly hurt? Even if you were unsure initially, the body language straight afterwards made it fairly clear that it was just a stumble I thought.

Lampley and Kellerman were trying to turn it into Chavez-Martinez.

I loved when he said "On that alien head of his" in one of the replays where Kovalev landed a punch on Hopkins dome lol.

He took several shots at Bhop through the fight, you can tell he doesn't like him lol.

I think the reason was he lost to Hopkins and he has some weird delusion about himself still being a reasonably good fighter so if he is saying Hopkins sucks he's admitting to himself that he sucks too.

That's my arm chair psychology of the situation.

And yes, the HBO announcers were atrocious last night.

Can't believe Lampley asked Roy if B-Hop should retire.
Sheesh. Roy will fight until he's 60 if the medical board doesn't stop him.

That's like asking the president of the NRA if someone should carry a gun.

              Good point!

I disagree because, just like Jones said. Hopkins did set Kovalev up for some big shots late in the fight. And even in the 12th round. It just wasn't enough.

And while 12 punches a round is a ****** strategy it's not something that we haven't seen with Bhop in the past so Roy just said what he was doing.

I thought Roy had a great night overall.

Jones and Kellerman get singled out a lot for bias here. But neither are anywhere near as biased as Lampley is and what Merchant became in later years.

Agree on Lampley being very bad.

the problem is most people to begin with dont have a clue what they are watching, so ofcourse roy sucks to you when he says profound sht and it's not just the obvious crap anyone can see and nod there head to like paulie malignaggi
You're phuckin ******ed. Roy was dead wrong. He was saying it was part of a strategy. The fight was the same for the whole fight, so it wasn't a strategy. Hopkins fought like ****. In the late rounds, same results. The twelfth was as brutal as it gets. He was shamelessly trying to find something positive when their clearly wasn't. He didn't know wtf he was talking about.
