Comments Thread For: Omar Figueroa Expected To Re-Ink With Golden Boy

Robert Diaz, matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, was asked about the contractual status of WBC lightweight titlist, Omar Figueroa, who on a September 'Golden Boy Live' telecast basically declared himself a free agent.

“My contract with Golden Boy ended on (September 24th), so no we’re looking into that,” revealed Figueroa, who joined Golden Boy three years ago.

Honestly, anyone that thinks Al Haymon fighters are going to return with Golden Boy Promotions, they're mistaken. They'll probably work with Goosen Promotions, DiBella Entertainment or Warriors Boxing. I do think though that Haymon Boxing will become a promotional company, I'm curious if Haymon is going to move his ShoBox fights to NBCSN Fight Night and have a couple big fight on Over the Air NBC but still keep most those bigger fights on Showtime Championship Boxing or Showtime PPV.

Whoever he is with, I wanna see Omar's next outing. In his last fight, I was finally impressed to see him better at defense. He was getting tagged way too much leading up to that fight. Finally he rolls with the punches, seemingly effortlessly. Maybe a light bulb finally went off in his head during training. Anyway, you won't find a fighter more determined. Not the greatest, but still with just one exception the Belmontes SD, the guy always brings a great fight for the fans to enjoy.

Diaz: "I think what he meant was the exact opposite of what he said"

lol sure. Figueroa is not particularly good anyway. C+ fighter at best.

He always rolled with punches and moves his head but his guard is still terrible. That plus his hand problems I don't think hell do well at 140

IMO Figueroa is not an elite guy but good enough 2 beat the weaker opposition he's fought...ie: Last bout ve Estrada, who was Mandatory & #1 & showed absolutely nothing.s

WAR FIGUEROA!!! Can't wait to see him in action again

Hopefully he stops draining himself to get down to 135. He's a BEAST at 140.

Well he was getting hit solid alot less in the last fight it seemed. As for the hands, you may be right, but I've read a few places he's supposed to get a good orthopedic finally. Maybe that'll fix the problem who knows.
