Comments Thread For: Artur Beterbiev Rising, Rapid Climb in WBC Rankings

Following last month's breakout win over former champion Tavoris Cloud, hot light heavyweight prospect Artur Beterbiev (6-0, 6KOs) cracked through the WBC's top fifteen and received a ranking spot of number 13.

Beterbiev, one of the top amateurs in the world, turned pro last June. He is promoted by Canadian promoter Yvon Michel of GYM and his stature is starting to grow in Canada with a growing number of fans coming out to see his fights. Some felt Beterbiev was being pushed too fast, but he busted through Cloud - who went the distance with such fighters like Bernard Hopkins, Gabe Campillo and Glen Johnson - in two easy rounds and captured the NABF title.

Yet another name to add to Stevenson's duck list.

Can't imagine the difficulty making this fight with both of them having the same promoter.

too bad GYM wrecked their relationship with ME, should've just let Stevenson fight Kovalev

Hmm. I suspect Stevensons 'advisor' may be less keen, n'est-ce pas? (your point I assume).

Beterbiev is better than Kovalev, whom he beat at the amateurs...
Beterbiev (with his close-range and mid-range boxing style) would be the only one whom I see beating Andre Ward... Excuses to Ward's fans...

He seems to wield scary power in both hands.

What is this guy's amateur record?

Kovalev will contend that they shoulda been 1:1 (claims a robbery in one of their am. meetings) but nonetheless Beterbiev seems to have the advantage in being able to fight well short or long, whereas Kovalev only seems really comfortable on the outside (but does have the advantage in mobility IMO).

Lets hope we get to see this one made sooner or later. Has the makings of nice little grudge match as well as being almost certain to end rather brutally.
