Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: If I Was 28, I Would've KO'd Mayweather!

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya says he was already past his best when faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their 2007 junior middleweight fight. Mayweather (47-0, 26KOs) needed a few rounds to find his rhythm and rallied in the later rounds to win a close twelve round split decision. Two judges saw it 116-112, 115-113 for Mayweather and the third had it 115-113 for De La Hoya.

AGREE witn OSCAR . Mayweather in his prime vs Oscar in his prime ... imo Oscars jab combined with his power n skills = at the very least a UD for Oscar.

Yeah, the way you beat a past prime Sweat pea or a mechanical Ike Quartey? Oscar, i respect you for taking on all challenges, but you were vastly overrated. You significantly outweighed Floyd and barely win three rounds. That was setting up for robbery.

Mayweather is over rated. Too many holes on his resume.

Can't wait until he retires, wouldn't fight Pacquiao after he put a beating on Cotto.

A guy who's not willing to fight is just not good for the sport of boxing. Just saying what everyone has in the last 12 years.

Last time Mayweather retired, he was forgotten. A great little fighter from the Phillipines took the sport by storm, the sport of boxing was alive and electrifying with great fights, ALL this with Mayweather retired and out of boxing as he took alot of the bs that ruins this sport with him too.

watching both de la ho,quartey/whitaker were close fights that oscar should have won and did......whitaker and quartey woud have caused floyd problems prime for prime, but imo de la hoya vs mayweather prime for prime de a hoya would beat floyd in a close decision.

Mayweather was 30 years old and past his prime himself. De La Hoya had a huge weight advantage AND he picked Mayweather's gloves for him. Under those circumstances, Oscar should have won the fight anyway.

You are right. No other modern fighter or fighter in the last 50 years for that matter, especially Pacquaio, has consistently fought the best competition one after another when their opponent was on a winning streak the way Mayweather has. Pacquaio damn sure hasn't done this.
