WBA/IBF light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins (55-6-2, 32KOs) is a fighter who is motivated by making history and taking big risks. Next month, Hopkins takes another dangerous fight when he faces undefeated WBO champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23KOs) in a high profile unification at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Many are surprised with Hopkins decision, at 49-years-old, to face such a dangerous puncher like Kovalev. The only person not surprised is Hopkins, who says he was very serious - several years ago - about moving up in weight to challenge the much bigger David Haye, when the British boxer held the WBA's version of the heavyweight crown.

I'm still thrilled with Hopkins for what he did with the Stevenson situation. Stevenson ducks Kovalev, moves to Hopkins' network, starts playing the duck game with Bernard too.

Instead of waiting around and playing games Hopkins just leaves and announces he's fighting Kovalev.

I remember when Hopkins called out Haye, I'm glad it never materialised because Haye would have killed Bhop.

I have no doubt he would have gone for it. Fair play to BHop for taking on Kovalev and especially for highlighting the games Stevenson was playing.

It wasn't just like that...
BHop waited for Adonis' telephone call till the last moment... But because Adonis didn't call, Hopkins couldn't play any games as was left with a mando fight (with no money in it) and he had to conclude the Kovalev fight in about 24 hours -- in order to avoid the mandatory deadline and to be stripped of his belt...

You guys better stop sleeping on Stiverne. Stiverne is a big / quick / hard hitting dude - he can take it and bring it, he fights behind a game plan. Arreola has never been beaten like that in 2 back to back fights.. I remember whe Hopkins was discussing fighting Haye right after Haye won the WBA strap from the giant.. Hopkins does not have enuff power to keep Stiverne honest or off his arse, and I am a big Hopkins supporter - that would be too much to ask of the old man. Stiverne is going to KO Wilder !! Wilder has not fought anyone, and has not gone any rounds. Take away his big right hand then what ???? take him into deep water then what????

David would have flattened BHop no doubt, although at 5/2 Ole Bernhard has got to be worth a few quid next time out!

Hopkins is a G no doubt about it. Gaye punches too hard though.
