Comments Thread For: Joshua Clottey: The Critics Forget My Good Performances

We know Canelo Alvarez is fighting in December on HBO. We don't know the date and opponent, though it's widely expected to be on Dec. 6 against Joshua Clottey.

The proposed matchup has been met with much derision on social media, with pundits and fans alike blasting Clottey as undeserving.

Clottey, for his part, is stung by the criticism, and believes the critics are harping on one poor performance. Yes, Clottey had a poor outing against Manny Pacquiao on the biggest stage possible, but what about all his impressive performances?

"I don't know why people condemn me with one fight but they've forget the best performances I made with the late (Diego) Corrales (RIP), Zab (Judah), (Miguel) Cotto and just recently (Anthony) Mundine in Australia. Well no problems, let see what happens in this fight because I am ready for it like I was ready for the Australia fight. ... We got this." [Click Here To Read More]

When a fighter under-performs time after time in his biggest fights, people tend to stop paying attention and start dismissing that fight.

Fighters work their ass of their entire careers for the opportunity that Josh Clottey had at Cowboys stadium. He took it for granted and didn't show up to win. You take a ton of fights off air in tiny ass ballrooms in hopes of getting that opportunity to display your talent in front of millions. And that's the performance he gave in front of those millions. Of course that's what people will remember him for.

After watching that fight, what casual fans or new boxing fans would be eager to go back and watch any of his previous fights?

That's it, Clottey, you are very good at losing! Good performances doesn't translate into winning....you are a very well learnt loser.

Clottey does too much of "turtle shell" defense. Thats the real knock on him. He's either offensive, or defensive.

I can't believe this clown gets a shot at Canelo.

If he comes to fight, could be a good strap.

If Canelo tires like he tends to do, it could open up the door for Clottey to steal some rounds. Joshua is a solid fighter, but he gets into his shell and lets fighters tee off on him. Nelo's flurries will look extra special against Clottey's defense. Even if they don't land effectively, the judges and crowd are going to eat it up.
