I was one of the few who favored Korobov, so this is how I saw it for him:
Option A:
-$500k to drop belt,
-a 'promise' to get over $1 million for the next fight
Option B:
-$1.4m (minus paying his team and manager and promoter's cut, which probably leaves him with a guesstimate of $850k) to take the Korobov fight.
-defend the title, with risk of losing it in the ring(highly likely in my opinion)
If it was a choice between the two options, the decision hinges on the uncertainty of option A which is the 'promise' for a purse north of a million for the next fight versus the uncertainty of option B, Roc Nation Sports' ability to effectively promote the fight. If Haymon's the one whispering in his ear, then you know which way the advice is slanted
