I may not like his style but he's one of the most effective fighters out there. I have been re-watching some of his fights and the one thing that really gets my attention is that he's an aggressive counter-puncher.
He comes at you and gets his offense off in such a way where his head is offline. His guard is tight, his body positioning...the guy is pretty much working on offense while minimizing any counters from his opponent and not by relying on reflexes but by knowing how to position himself.
And it's not even blocking and parrying punches like the way GGG does it, who is also an aggressive counter puncher. He does it mostly through knowing how to put his body and head in the right position. He puts out most of the incoming fire from the get go. Most fighters rely on reflexes and they either slip/duck/step back/block at the last moment and with Ward it almost never goes that far because he puts his body in such a great position that he diminishes the opponent's chances of landing a punch before he's even thrown it.
I am not good at making videos and if somebody knows what I am talking about and dares to make one, it will be great!
I think Andre Ward's style sans the headbutts and the clinching should really be studied in a lot more detail.
Meanwhile, here's a short highlight:
