Comments Thread For: Abel Sanchez: GGG’s Secret Weapon

By Thomas Gerbasi - When Max and Oleg Hermann showed up at Abel Sanchez?gym in Big Bear, California with their rising star Gennady Golovkin in 2010, the renowned coach was impressed by the Kazakhstan native, both as a fighter and a person.

“We spoke a little bit, talked about boxing, he showed me videos of his past fights, and I told him what I thought, what he could do different, and what we could do if we worked together,?recalled Sanchez. “Then we had dinner that night, we said good night, and then had breakfast that next morning. By then I had researched him.?br />
He was intrigued - by the talent, the mindset, and the power of Golovkin - but when the trio left him with the words that they would see him in a couple months, Sanchez, a boxing guy too long to believe such promises, assumed the only time he would see Golovkin again was on television.

“I thought, sure, we’ll see you in a couple months and the check’s in the mail too.?br />
Sanchez laughs. He’s in New York City at the moment, preparing Golovkin for the 11th defense of his WBA middleweight title, this one against Australia’s Daniel Geale in Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. The Californian was called back two months later, on a Saturday, with a request to pick Golovkin up the next day. [Click Here To Read More]

Hard to dislike GGG, unfortunately most of his fans on here almost make you wish he'd lose so they'd shut the **** up!

      I knew it!

Men, when I saw GGG fighting against Gregorg Proksa in sep 2012 in his first USA fight, I said to myself, men this guy style looks a lot like Chavez Sr. I am excited to hear that Sanchez molded him into that style and that showed him a video of 1987. No wonder why he has the body shots, killer instinct and pressure as Chavez Sr did in the 90s. I always liked GGG. He seems a cool, humble, transparent and likeable guy. Best wishes to him.

It seems Golovkin is up for a beauty contest...
This is not what he needs rights now -- he needs to sell some more tickets for tomorrow.

Mumbling Geale doesn't help GGG to sell the tickets unfortunately. Geale doesn't have the following and behaves like he is sorry for taking your time. This apologetic behaviour doesn't generate interest in him.

GGG team should have gotten a Puerto Rican on their card though.

GGG is in a bad spot. Chavez Jr. is in legal hold, Ward is in legal hold, Canelo is on Showtime, and Cotto is eyeing a big payday with Canelo. Where does he get a big name from?

I like GGG as a person and a fighter, but his Abel Sanchez needs to let GGG talk for himself. To me, Sanchez ruin it for me with GGG. I feel a trainer shouldnt talk more than a fighter

You could see it almost immediately. He moves like Chavez, throws the hook like him and cuts the ring off the same way.

He's not as good defensively, or offensively IMO. Chavez moved his head much, much more and while everyone talks about his left hook, Chavez' right hand was a thing of beauty.

GGG has time though, I don't know if he will ever be what Chavez was, but he has the right man in his corner.
