Determined to return and erase the terrible memory of what happened against fellow-great Miguel Cotto in June, 39-year-old Martinez will next face a top-10 contender with the goal of recapturing his world title.

"Miguel De Pablos (Business Manager) and I met with Sergio at his home in Madrid and he says he is 100% healthy and ready to do what it takes to return to the very top of boxing," said Martinez advisor Sampson Lewkowicz.

He wasn't supposed to win a title let alone get this far. I think he has "over" achieved given how late he started. Maybe a winnable fair well fight in Argentina so he goes out on a winning note, but beyond that I'd say let it go Maravilla.

Man, I would hate to see Martinez start losing to lesser fighters as a result of this decision. There's no shame in getting wrecked by a legend like Cotto, but anyone less than that would be so sad and annoying.

It's his choice, but no Martinez supporter wants to see him become a shopworn 'opponent' for guys like Murray, Quillin, Soliman, etc. Imagine them saying "Yee-yuh, I dun beat Martinez yo! I'm the best!"

I have yet to see the replay of the cotto fight because of how much distress it caused me to see Maravilla in that fight. Nor will I ever I mean EVER watch it again. I had residual effects for about a week, feeling down about how the fight went. He'll always be one of my favorites and though I don't want to see him beat up like that again and wouldnt mind if he retired, Id like to see him go out on his shield with a good win. Maybe even against GGG. Now in before People start saying he'd get murdered a guy can dream can't he?
