You are right, but there's still remains the unwritten code of ethical professionalism and it seems this was violated leaving more of a bitter as supposed to a sweet victory.
Real talk.
Bingo. Sucker punching is b1tch ****. Under all circumstances, especially in a professional SPORT. These are not two knuckleheads off the street, these are athletes who are supposed to have morals, and class.
Maybe the ref didn't see the headbutt. Regardless, it's not the first accidental headbutt in the world and I have never seen any fighter take more than 30 seconds after a accidental headbutt what more 5 minutes.
The headbutt was sod's fault anyway. He just rushed in and walked into rigo's head.
not sure if this warrants a response but ill oblige anyway
he ref signalled "accidental headbutt"
ref is meant to have fighters safety as priority
the fighter was having trouble opening his eye........
the fighter did not respond to the referee's question
the referee pushed the fighter's head up
when the referee resumed action, the fighter was still in the corner with his arms on the ropes
that referee should never be allowed to officiate ever again

agreed. the referee had a nightmare. i'm not blaming rigondeaux as it's not his job to look out for his opponent's safety, but it's inarguable that the fight's conclusion was not satisfying. you may argue that it's academic as rigondeaux would have won anyway, but it still renders the whole fight meaningless imo.
It's a fight. If you're not ready for your opponent to take your head off, he'll take it off. The ref clearly motioned to continue and the guy wasn't ready. That's his fault, not Rigo's.
Rigo should not use tapping gloves as a weapon either. He should have tapped, backed away and then resumed. He clearly used the gesture to trick his opponent.

Now I know.
I'm not harold lederman, but what I do know is that I've seen worse headbutts than that(some weren't even acknowledged by the referee) and the fighter just fought through it, because it is a fight - a bloodsport - and nobody's responsible for the W but you.
