Aint no one in the top-ten NOT signed with Haymon/GBP except Timmy and Marquez. GBP and TR may want to start working together, but they aren't going to co-promote a big fight right out of the gate. Top Rank has to look in-house again.
I would have rather seen Provodnikov get this shot, but how can you guys hate? Algeri fought his heart out and is now getting a payday, and Manny is fighting someone not coming off a string of losses/mixed results. Nothing wrong with this bout.
This is exactly how I feel. I agree 1000% with everything. (I would have also preferred Prov-Pac)

This is a good fight. Algieri is fresh blood, someone new and his 5'10 frame, long reach and awkward style will give problems to Pacquiao. I'd much rather see a fight like this than Marquez 400 or Timothy Bradley 3 or any other recycled Top Rank fight. He's also coming off a big win, not a loss like Rios so it's nice to see a little guy hit the jackpot for once. The only problem is this isn't really PPV worthy since Algieri is little known. It would be a great HBO regular main event fight, but obviously HBO can't pay $20m purses so the PPV will be low numbers I'm sure but that's none of my concern.
As noted, Algieri is tall and lean standing at 5'10, so he'll have a considerable height & reach advantage over Pacquiao. He is a boxer who uses movement, counter punching and a good jab. He has little power as shown by his 8 KO's in 20 fights so he rely's on his boxing abilities to earn decisions. He can take a punch as shown by fighting Ruslan and winning a decision over 12 (with a badly swollen eye). He's going to be a tricky foe for Pacquiao to figure out. When was the last time Pacquiao fought a tall boxer like Algieri?? People used to complain all Pac fights are come forward brawlers that suit his style, well here is the complete opposite.

I think when PPV buys are concerned Algieri will have to carry a lot of the promotion of this fight on his shoulders alone. I'm guessing Pacquiao is gonna be in the US just for the pre-fight tours/press conferences, he might have his entire training camp at Philippines & might fly out to China from there itself for the fight.
HBO are gonna have to come up with their best through their 24x7 series to sell the fight. I hope HBO commentators don't go overboard in making Algieri look any better than he is during the fight.

Meh, I've mellowed on my disdain for it. I'm hoping that Arum realizes this main event isn't enough and gives a decent undercard for once.
I am curious to see how Manny fights a fighter with Algieri's style. Let's see how well Manny's feet do with someone who wants to move just as much as he does. I think Manny will win, but Algieri can make interesting perhaps.
